voltage control built on the video card? the 4870 dont successful oc
Yes, reference 5850 and 5870s can use software to control the voltage of the GPU.

Well, you can always read reviews to find out.
Most manage to OC fine.
Some owners of the 5850 manage to OC pass 5870 clocks.

i need s-video what i can do?

Get a 4870 1GB with S-video or a GTX 260 core 216 with S-video. Its such a huge upgrade for you that unless you compared them to the 5xxx series ATi right next to it you won't notice a difference. Upgrading from a 2900 pro will be huge.

Just get a great deal. Some people with solid heatware feedback are selling GTX 260's for $120 USD. Just pay actual shipping to Israel and you should have enough money left over to buy a new monitor etc.

Hi There,

Can some1 tell me if I can buy 5850 for my computer? The problem is that i have only 520 W PSU - Corsair HX520... is that enought ? My motherboard has only pcie 1.1 (foxconn mars) but as i can see here: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_5870_PCI-Express_Scaling

it's not a problem. Well my cpu e8400 could be too slow for 5850 but I could overlock it ;] My presend card is 9600 GT so can I replace it to brand new 5850 ?

The problem about going 45/40nm and GDDR5 is that the chip needs to be redesigned, they have a hard time getting the GT300 out the door, why waste R&D on an old chip?

Why aren't nVidia dropping their prices?
Simply because there is an army of nVidiots who march behind nV and pay.
Or because they will die without Physx/Cuda and Badaboom to convert their porn and watch on iPhone in the bus.:nutkick:
NVIDIA cant drop prices, why? their CHIPS are twice as big as AMDs

here is a compersion of 65nm GT200 (55nm GT200 is little smaller at around 472m2) and 55nm RV770

indeed, and i reckon the gt300 chip will dwarf the gtx280 chip, and will certainly be a lot bigger than the 5870 chip, meaning that ati can drop the prices of their cards massively if they have to and just outprice nvidia out of the game. Unless, of course, the gt300 is just so amazingly powerful it can run crysis at 2560*1600 at 60fps, and cost less than £600 for the privilege.

all reference design cards available right now are made in the same factory, just the sticker is of different quality
and bundle, HIS has some toolkit, sapphire has 2 games (5870) or one game (5850), Powercolor has diffrent SKUs, one for Dirt 2, one with HDMI cable, and one vanilla etc

I got the sapphire one with 2 games ^^ although i haven't actually installed battlestations: pacific yet, it was being wierd last time i tried. I was mainly interested in dirt 2 as an add-on, considering i was going to buy it anyway.

I think it only comes with the Dirt2 edition?
Mine is just the card and cables etc, but it is by far the cheapest 5870 around.

downloaded the battlestations demo off steam and i liked playing it, so i bought the sapphire as it was cheapest and had 2 nice games with it! thats basicly 25% of the value of the card, i bought the card for $527 with shipping, the games are worth $134 separately with shipping so thats a great value!

second time round it installed ok, it seems that the disc just wasn't agreeing with my dvd drive and was slowing down, but it seems a decent game, but dirt 2 was the big reason for me :) still, it really isn't a bad package, the combined cost of my games is probably about £50-60 and i bought the card for £315 including shipping (next day morning of course), so not bad imo, and you also do get some molex to 6 pin connectors if your power supply is old and/or only has one 6 pin pci-e connector.

Out of all this reading, Reventon I love the hottie in your Avatar and you representing College Football.

ChaosKilla, excellent choice on Mila Kunis, hot european descent chick.

@OP, grab one. I don;t know what the hold up is. If you want to wait, that is fine too. Do what you feel is right.

I disagree. Too much airbrush work. She looks like she was manufactured by Matel Toys.
