I know its not a 4800 series, but my 3870 runs great with the 8.8 cats. The 8.7's had a few problems, Biggest thing being a memory leak :twitch:. I've used ATi's for a while now, my last nVidia was a Geforce mx400. The drivers for ATi are always hit or miss. But the 8.8's are very good right now.

From my experience ATI drivers have always been very good. I'm even running fine in linux. (ATI is notorious for having 'bad' linux drivers)

As far as specific settings are concerned there really isn't anything to say in particular. You will have to review CCC once you have everything up and running. If you have a question about something I am sure someone here will be more then happy to help you. Just make sure that you have net frame works 2.0 installed before you install CCC. I would also install net frame works 2.0 SP1 as well. Also make sure that AI is turned on (it should be though) and, use GPU-Z to make sure you are actually using x16 PCIe. Other then that, you can take a look at Image Scaling (if you watch movies or play games at non-native resolutions).

I'm sure the windowed issue will be correctable by changing how the driver determines what mode it should be using. Simple in theory... as for the game specific settings I really just want to know how you do it, is there a drop down where you pick the exe you want the settings applied to? Is it anything like how nvidia handles it? I've worked with the ccc recently but I didn't see anything regarding where you do game settings for individual games, at least not anything as obvious as in the nvidia panel.

@zithe

It's not know as an 'issue' to ATI/AMD since they did it deliberately, they put the breaks on furmark to prevent the card overheating, that's what we are talking about here, the 'issue' is their 'fix', or rather what their fix signifies might be an issue, that is to say it seems to tell us that their 4850's are prone to overheating from running at max capacity.

If they did thats a good thing, reason it courses less RMA's which saves them cash which they need. All so it could mean that they know of the issue and solved it this way as they do not have a work around for it yet, unless you want your card explode instead. So that said i'm 100% behind ATI for doing this IF it's true in the 1st place.

All settings like AA/AF should be done within the game itself.

My 2-4850's are running great in cat8.8

The only concern I have is all the hype about ADM/ATi playing havoc with their drivers. I read the 8.8 release notes and found nothing about what is discussed concerning this issue. What I would like to know if someone can link me to some creditable info dealing with this so called AMD/ATi deliberately writing a performance fix limiting the furmark program in any way. It could be a issue but deliberate ....???? I don't think so. I emailed AMD/ ATi about this issue and posted on there site trying to see what comes of it.
As far as these VC go....awesome is only touching the surface concerning the gaming pleasure I have with these in CF.

Heres a quote from Dave Bauman :OpenGL remains important across multiple business functions - Window desktop PC aside, Linux, Workstation and Apple all rely on OpenGL and the investment we've put in Orca means that all of these areas leverage the same codebase; one of the reasons why we've been about to give "out-of-the-box" Linux support for a new architecture such as HD 4800 at introduction and put new functionality in place in such environments, such as Crossfire X support" and here :As stated in the OpenGL 3.0 annoucement, we plan to support all of the functionality exposed by OGL 3.0. You can also see from the list of extensions with AMD/ATI in the name we support multiple AMD specific functions, including support new hardware such as the tesselation engine available exclusively in HD 2000 series and above." Sorry for the OT. But it is in regards to ATI drivers, and making purchasing decisions. Hope this helps

Well my brother may find it helpful, linux support is one reason he'd favor a GTX over the 4850.
