i5-10300H always on boost

Hey all,
I just bought an MSI GL65 with an i5-10300H.
Well, i'm surprised, it's always on boost, it goes very hot and dont just lower his frequency like previous generation with Turbo Boost.

I'm not worried about the chip, I just want to lower my laptop temperature and dont get a vacuum cleaner just in front of my head!
I can disable Turbo Boost with Throttle Stop, but i can't edit the Turbo Boost ratio in TPL menu, and can't just get a Speed Shift working normally.

This is weird ...

Thanks for your help!

In my case, it made thos computer very loud and hot.
I wonder if this is fixable or not.
Actually my only solution is to edit the clock mod % with Throttle Stop to limit the processsor, it's working... for now :)

Ummm. No. You just bought this. If it is stuck in turbo mode, you can call MSI tech support. In fact, you should call them and report the problem. I may be something others are experiencing and they may have a simple fix, or it may trigger them to put out a new BIOS firmware update.

That's very strange problem, I am having same CPU on an another laptop, but I've literally never seen problem like thst. Check if you have normal EPP value and not just 0. For example I use 107 instead of Windows stock value of 84. Also check all your software, you might set up something wrong or some bad process doing this

The point of Throttlestop is to allow you to undervolt your CPU for better thermals. Kaby-R to Comet Lake seem to do well with a -100 to -125mV undervolt usually on the cache, and possible more on the cores. You can, if necessary, adjust ratios on top of that if it's not enough, but if you're not undervolting first you're doing something wrong. Adjusting clock mod is not the way to go.

Comet Lake CPUs coincided with the Plundervolt vulnerability and patch, which usually disables undervolting entirely. If this is what MSI did, and there's no Plundervolt-fix-free BIOS available (might not be for 10th gen, they were released with Plundervolt fixes) then you might be SOL. But I don't think it should affect adjusting ratios, that just sounds like you forgot to tick a box somewhere in the FIVR menu?

You can also try repasting your CPU but on this new of a laptop I'd probably not do that, and it doesn't always work out for the better.

I'll call MSI later to report my issue...
I'll code a small program to adjust Trottle Stop when i start a specific program, it will lower the temperatures

Thanks!

You might check to see if MSI already has a BIOS update that was released after your computer left the factory.

Have you tried other power plans? Balanced should work fine for most users.

I did a BIOS update, and it seems the computer can now lower frequencies a bit, i goes from 4.2GHz to 3.3~GHZ automaticly, i'll try to tweak settings in dragon center (a software from MSi)
Anyway, just this update make it run so much silenty and cold!

Any guess to enabled Speed Shift technology to lower more the frequencies ?

I think we can manage this issue with power plans, but I don't know where try to customize the settings...
I'm currently in balanced mode and i adjusted the switch for battery life

Okay, the BIOS update just do something weird.
Now, when i start a game, a power limit just turn on and the system is trottled at maximum consumpution of 35W ... (against normally 65W)

It's not on because the system is overheating or something like this, it's just turned on automaticly ... WHY?

When you say you just bought this computer, how new is it? Brand new computers, especially if they have been sitting in the warehouse for a bit, often fall quite a bit behind in updates because the new users gets them on line. Windows 10 has recently gone through a lot of updates. Plus, Windows, when new, has a lot of other house keeping to do - such as indexing (which should NOT be disabled in W10). All this updating could take hours - especially if you are using the computer while it is trying to update because that will throw all those processes into the back ground.

I am just saying, maybe you just turn it on and walk away - do some chores for a couple house, then see what happens.

I updated him as soon as i powered it on...
I do a BIOS update too, anyway, it just limit the consuption in game... It lower effectively the temperature, but performances too ...

Anyway, I guess it's Dragon Center the main controller, only this software can edit frequencies (when I enable the Power Saving Mode).
Maybe there is a way to enable some "experimental features" that can solve my problem?
