Hello, I am new here, I am looking for some input and some constructive criticism on this build, this build is for gaming and is not a top of the line build. I already have the graphics card, power supply, and hard drive, and all I need now is the cpu, board, RAM, case, and the heatsink. I am most likely going to overclock. does this build also look decent enough for a stable and reliable overclock?

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1J8oM

My Current Build is a Dell:

CPU: i7 2600 non K (not overclocked)
Motherboard: Dell H67
RAM: Nanya Technology/Hyundai Electronics 12GB 1333 DDR3
Power Supply: Corsair CX750
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 2GB
Heatsink: Stock
Hard Drive: Unknown
Case: Dell XPS 8300 Case

First of all, the 2600 is not Haswell, it's a Sandy Bridge. It also won't allow you to overclock. If you could give a budget and tell us where you're located or what shops you'll be buying from, maybe some of us could suggest some parts. :toast:

oops, im sorry. the specs under the pcpartpicker link are my current pc specs. i forgot to put that there and I have a budget of $800. I also only need the case, board, cpu, ram, and heatsink. I will also be using newegg.ca

If you want to go air cooled I would suggest sandy bridge k series as ivy and Haswell get pretty hot. Or splurge on a new ivy-e with a 2011 board, the 4 core shouldn't be too pricey.

I would go with a Ivy-E but would I be able to find a case, motherboard, ram, water cooler, and the Ivy-E for $800 or under?

That's what I meant by surge. It would cost more but you would have the latest. There are new 2011 boards coming out lately also. If you get an aio watercooler you could get ivy or Haswell though. You could go with the Swiftech h220 or even the h320, if you get a case that can fit it. They are a little more but have much better components and can be expanded later if you wanted.

Fractal arc midi r2...79.99 good quality case with lots of perks. Filters on all spots except the back. You can put a 360 rad uptop with little modification and a 240 in front.
Or
Corsair air 540 & vengeance c70 are good and are around 149 but often on sale for 109-119. Lots of future watercooler options in those as well.

If you can't get the swifetch h220/320 ($130-150) which I highly recommend, then the corsair h110 is on sale for $110, & I think people have fit it in all the cases I mentioned. The h320 wouldnt work very well for the c70 case however, but I know someone who did fit a smaller 360 rad in the top of one.

I like the $200 range boards from Asus (hero) and gigabyte (force/sniper) & the msi $200 gaming board gets good reviews also.

There are so many choices for ram that I would just look for the best deal at the time for the kind of speeds/timings you are wanting. Sign up for Neweggs email specials, that's the best way to catch the good deals.

Im not sure what gdubc is talking about, but sure haswell or ivy bridge can be hottr but its perfectly manageable with good air cooler. but honestly with your budget i would look at the corsair h all in one liquid coolers, like the h100 and get a case that supports a 240 radiator in the top like corsair 500r.

That MSI GAMING board is definitely a good pick - that line has great price to performance/features. The build quality is good as well as the service if you should ever need it ( talked to them about my notebook this year / MS win8 issues - downgraded to 7 :) )

Go Haswell, why buy an old socket. Even a CM212EVO will do on OC to 4.4. lose the 1333 Ram get 1600. You dont need 750w a 550 Seasonic will do nicely. Then get a Fractal case

I'd suggest getting a i5-4670K and save your money. Even if you don't get a good overclock, it won't bottleneck your 670.

I only managed to get my 3770k to 4.2 Ghz, still it is enough to take care of two 670s in a multi-monitor setup.

What I was talking about is that he had a hyper 212 linked and I would think he would want something better if he plans on overclocking ivy/haswell.

I'm just curious, do you think my i7 2600 is bottlenecking my gtx 670?

There's no way the i7 2600 would bottleneck a single GPU. i7 2600 is still pretty strong and will beat i5 4670K on multithreaded optimized software.

Parts look good but you'd need better to overclock Haswell. I'd prefer AIO cooler like Corsair Hydro or CM Seidon series as they are compact and prettier to look at.

Do you really like the case ? I mean if you want to save some more penny you can drop to cheaper mid tower case like NZXT source 210 that has very good feature.

There isn't many game that is really optimized to utilize all threads on i7 2600 that I can think of. I think Crysis3 and BF3 multiplayer are some that will benefit from multithreading.

I also heard the upcoming BF4 is optimized up to 8 thread :)

so in BF4 my i7 2600 will have a performance advantage over say a i5 4670k thats overclocked? and if so how big of a performance hit?

I don't know how much the performance hit on BF4 since it's not released yet and I can't just assume its multithreading performance.

FYI an i5 4670K would need to be clocked at least 4.6 GHz to match i7 2600's physic score in 3dmark11 Perf benchmark if that gives you some idea.

but does that necessarily mean that it will have the same performance in games if my current i7 2600 is at stock 3.4 and the 4670k is at 4.6?

No, not with Haswell. Haswell has hit that mark where those budget coolers, really aren't enough anymore. You will want something a bit better.
