Ok so ive been dorking around with my setup at night for the better part of a week - and I noticed something a little strange -when I bump the mem multi down and run the ram at 1200 7-7-7-21 games run smoother with a slightly lower avg fps :wtf: but no jerks or stutters at ALL even farcrap 2, which normally is jerky while hitting 80FPS, runs noticeably smoother.

I wanna know if anyone else notices this - this is already the second 1156 motherboard that I notice this on.

IMO is either instability or you just need to enable vsync.

Maybe ram is bad...but maybe it's just an effect of mis-matched multis...the lower multi might jsut fix the mismatch.

Im thinking its something like this - the ram is stable for sure. 25 runs of linX and 3 days in windows without a reboot @ 1600 - unstable ram would have bit it by now.

Games skip with the 1600... ~80 FPS and then 4 frames just get dropped, and then 30 seconds later same thing... :wtf: with 1200 its like 75 FPS but no skips whatsoever - games run like butter.

Probably some random setting causing the issue. I'd have to play with the system to find out what's what.

After I told certain people about looking for tRD(B2B) on i7, and then they took the credit( @ Jody, not knowing I kept screenshots of the shoutbox conversation due to the weirdness that transpired), I'm not exactly eager to give other ideas out. Madshimps then posted an article, and even referred to B2B as being similar to tRD.:shadedshu

Maybe I'll pick up a board and cpu and see what's up. I just ordered a new guitar yesterday though.

Trust me im not gonna take any credit - just trying to see if I can get my system tuned to run 'smooth' so many ppl on here oc the balls off their computers, but there are no real guides to tune the system to get a smooth gaming experience.

Which is where I think the whole "AMD is smoother than Intel" thing comes from... ive seen so many people say "ive had an i7 at 4G and my Phenom II at 3.6 feels smoother". Its probably due to sh*t like this - some subtiming somewhere causing stutter/jerkiness in games.

Cad - we need a thread/guide - id be happy to test my system and play around with memory timings and do screen shots and such for it.

Tell me what settings you would want to try out and I will log the results. Could be helpful no?

I'm all for making threads and guides, but only when OEMs provide me with the hardware, at this point.

I don't wanna give the wrong impression...I just feel that it's entirely up to OEMs to provide info on what settings do what.

I will say, however, that i7 and i5 are optimized for default settings. All memory timings add up, DIMM and controller together, and given that I see scaling up to 2500mhz from some poeple, I know that the high-end isn't as tight as it should be.

If these guys would stop worrying about WR submissions, maybe we'd get better bioses.

EDIT: If ya had anything other than an ASUS board, I'd be all over it, but ASUS won't get any help from me any more. Notice I'm not talking about AMD and CH4 any more either...

for what its worth i have noticed slightly smoother operation in games and in the system when backing just a hair off the max, not just for mem but also for processor and video card overclocking,

not sure what the deal is there, they all passed the tests and benchmarks.. the biggest gain in smoothness seems to come by backing off the video card..

i think i barely noticed a change with backing off the ram,.. but it was so small i dont even think its worth fretting about, but i leave my overclocks backed off one notch just for the piece of mind.. i don't really care how big my e-peen is
its most likely just a bit of instability.. not enough to stop the tests, but just enough to exist.. thats my guess, could be something more volts or less heat fixes

I have too - this is true. However, this GB board hits 235 without a hitch and im at 200... The ram in this case for me makes a huge difference for some reason. I will try to back off the 260's clocks a bit to see.

That might be the GDDR5 error correcting. Clocks seems stable, but they are not and performance suffers.

I really liked artifacts more, you knew where the limits was.

And for OP, I'm running CAS7 with lower speed, although this RAM would go much higher. Always liked lower latency compared to speed, makes system snappier, even if it would be a bit slower that higher MHz.

YES! thank you thats exactly what im seeing - snappier - even the windows loading screen goes by faster... yet all the benchies show up to a 10% decline.

Benches are useless. It's not like there is any code out there that is really demanding in the first place...really good code is gonna run in cache anyway, there's bloody TONNES of it.

Take at any game box...does any single one tell you what ram SPEED you need? Size...sure...

You don't take a controller with 1333mhz default speeds and get 2500mhz without paying for it in some way.
