I am currently waiting for my i7 10700k and was looking for air cooling options with the possible option of over-clocking if needed.

The ram I have is HyperX Predator RGB 16GB with a height of 42.2mm. My motherbaord is the ASRock z590 extreme if this matters.

I currently viewed the following but unsure on others, any suggestions are welcome, thank you.

- CoolerMaster Hyper212 Black Edition
- BeQuiet Dark Rock Slim

what is the cooler height limit in your case? Also the ID-cooling and NZXT kraken are not air coolers.

Assuming there is no height limit to consider, I'd consider Noctua and Noctua if you are staying with air. A NH-U12S if you don't want something huge at a reasonable price and a D15 if you want a monster and don't mind spending close to premium AIO money on an air cooler.

i acutally used an NH U12S on a 10700k a while ago.

it's "enough" for stock/stock clocks with manual tweaked voltage but overclocking is an absolute no go.

the NH D15S, NH D15 or other beefier coolers are totally fine but the tiny 120mm heatsink heats up way too fast.

The thermals on the U12S were just fine for a modest overclock with an additional fan unless you had a subpar chip that required way too much voltage.

19°C Ambient, NH U12S Chromax. Fan at 90% fixed. still running over 70-75°C constantly and spikes into the mid 80s (while playing warzone...)
and Summer is another thing.
that was at 5.1 Ghz 1.29V VRVOUT (150A)

once the cooler is warm (like two Cinebench Runs or 20-30 minutes of playing CPU intensive games) it does not cool that well.

Stock is totally fine. but i don't think that saving a few bucks on a cooler especially when you already buy an expensive Z590 board and want to overclock.

I just don't think I had temps that high. Maybe that second fan made more of difference than I thought. Thing is, there really isn't much in terms of other air coolers that will do much better than the U12S (with a second fan) other than a D15. If I were the OP, I'd go straight to a 240/360 AIO from EK or Arctic if he is planning on significant overclocking.

I have a standard Hyper 212 Evo on my 10700K. I also have a mild all-core overclock of 5GHz and a max 2-core boost of 5.2GHz. Right now my office is kind of warm in the 21-22°C area and under full Aida64 stress the 10700k is just barely breaking into the 90s. I'm also using the iGPU, which adds a little extra heat too.

Scythe has some decent air coolers too, not sure off the top of my head what the RAM compatibility for those is like but often cheaper and pretty similar performance wise to the noctua stuff.

You should check out the Thermalright Frost Commander 140.

Probably no reviews yet..

Its better than my Le Grand Macho RT and True Spirit 140 Power, at least on my hardware..

Those other two coolers on an Intel were better than my D14 was.. don't have it anymore so couldn't test D14 on AMD.

I also never take notes, and use about 2-3 times more airflow when testing then the average user is capable of generating..

But its still a wicked cooler even if you forget to turn up the fans.. I only mention it because I think its really good, and no one really knows about them..

I would suggest Fuma 2 from Scythe, it performs as good as high end Noctua coolers while the price is cheaper
