Still newb so bear with me.

I applied some ceramique on the chip and it read 40-42 degrees ambient on the cpu. Thought maybe I put too much on, so I used some mx2 that came with my chip cooler that was rated better(per the package). I'm at 40-42 degrees ambient. I haven't even gotten to learning how to overclock this chip. It is a d0, seems high, is it?

I'm showing vcore at 1.00 3.3v at 3.28v 5 v @ 5.05 & 12 v at 12.14.

Running a v8 at 2100 rpm.

Ok so let me get this straight... You got a V8, you think you over TIMed, so you cleaned off the ceramique (please tell me you cleaned it off with something that would clean deep like acetone or chip cleaner) then you applied mx-2 in a not so extreme ammount. If you are un satisfied I would remount. Your CPU is also using minimal power, so if you figure it's an issue it most likely is too hot. Have it in a crappy constricted case? There's a lot of information you didn't give us even though you let us know how well your PSU was holding up lol.

Did you lower the vcore, or is this what your seeing in the bios at default? Default vcore on these chips is like 1.2v. If you didn't mess with vcore, the default voltage is not being read correctly. Even at 1.2v the DO's do run hot, that's why so many people are on water. Oh, and ceramique is not the best cpu TIM. MX-2 will give you 2-3c better temps.

Not that hot though. He's obviously also got C-states on and all sorts of other heat reducing CPU functions. I've used a Xig Direct touch on a D0 with system viper and a slower RPM fan. At 4.4GHz it was idling at 40C

This is the bios default. I thought it sounded low based on what I'd read but even still it was running at 2.8, rated at 2.6 with a 21 multiplier.

Yes I cleaned it, no acetone no specialized chip cleaner, 15 cotton swabs & alcohol.

The case is a lian li, forgot the model # but it's currently open.

Have you updated the bios on this board?

No, bios not updated. It was an open box board though, possible someone else did.

The board has a neat bios upgrade function that of course, doesn't work with vista 64. I did put the rom file on a dvd but I don't know if it'll read that. My floppy's don't hold enough for this bios size.

I'm also having a problem with the system recognizing my usb keyboard for the bios, I keep having to use the roomie's. Any idea how to fix that?

There should be an advanced option to enable USB keyboards. Just search, it's in there.

It might be his cooler.. I have the same one and its not the greatest.. over priced piece of metal is what it is.. After my AS5 set-in .. running my Q9550 @ stock everything i was getting around 40-45c on all four cores and hitting past the 70c mark on full load.. The only way I fixed my issue was lapping the Heat-sink itself..
