I7 870 overheating on one core only [SOLVED]

Hello, i have an I7 870 and i got a Closed Loop watercooling solution (same problem with stock and custom air cooling) and my cpu overheats under intense gaming 80%+ load most of the time it's only on ONE core, Any help dudes?

temps on Prime95
core0:74"C
Core1:68"C
Core2:68"C
Core3:68"C

Temps on kinda idle (firefox/steam/etc...)
8/16% load
29 to 45 "C

Specification:
I7 870 (Lynnfield) clocked at 3.20GHz
GA-H55M-USB3
Gigabyte 7970 Windforce 3x OC Edition
1920 x 1080

Those temps are still safe, does it throttle then?
Do you experience fps drops with gaming?

If not I wouldn't worry it about it.
However it seems a little high for a watercooled CPU?..
Also depends on your ambient(room) temp.

It literally shuts off at 74, ambient room temp is around 25"C

Haha yeah also i have tried tightening the water block screws re-applying thermal paste(WAAAY too many times to count)

That is your problem. 7970 + oc'ed cpu does not like 400w psu's

What software are you monitoring with? Other than being a bit warm for watercooled as P4-630 said, those temps should be fine. And I agree to suspect the PSU.

If you download HWInfo64 and run p95 for a while and get back to us with a screenshot or report, we need to have a look at the other temps and voltages to try to narrow this down

I used to have a 7950 and a stock i7 920 on a 480W and believe it or not it did not like it much.
So I think you are in the same situation.

I've had this setup like this for about 2+- years with the new watercooling and psu (old one failed) but the overheating has always been there abit worst lately

This was ended slightly prematurely as it overheats sometimes at 74 degrees, also could my ram be overheating?

It's just a bad one. 80+ rating doesn't mean anything really.

Pretty much any PSU rated for it Peak output power is garbage. Your's has a continuous output rating of 400w on +12V rail and 450w with the +3.3V, +5V & +12V rails combined. If it did 580w it would probably catch on fire or go bang, one of the two.

I would recommend something with at least 550 to 600W just on the +12V rail.
