Thank you for this and I might take you up on the offer of help.
It'll be a couple of weeks at least yet though,if I do I'll pm you then start a new thread.

Are the kits you've linked available in low profile? I'll need them as I'm getting a Noctua Nh D15 cooler

Also is this memory ok? This is what I've bought before, well ddr3 anyway :
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/16g...-(2666)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-16-18-18-35-xm

or this to go higher:
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/16g...-(3000)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-15-17-17-35-xm

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/16g...-(3200)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-16-18-18-36-xm

I've noticed the jump in voltage for the second 2 I've linked although the 3200mhz is the same voltage as the 3000mhz
I'm sorry, I missed this post earlier this morning.

If you are getting a Noctua cooler, the most recent versions have a cut-out that makes memory height not so much of an issue. Perhpas you can troll through our cooler reviews and see what I'm talking about. But yeah, DIMMs hitting the cooler can be an issue for sure, and I've been focused on RGB memory for reviews as of late because that's what these companies are releasing, and with the LEDs up top, these DIMMS are a fair bit taller than they might otherwise be. You've raised a very important aspect of memory that has slipped my mind for sure, so thanks for mentioning this. I'd love to see some low-profile RGB DIMMs though... I think I need to send out some emails and see who can make me some!!!

I don't see 1.35V and 1.3V for VCCIO and VCCSA yet... gonna just ignore ya on this now. :p I can only repeat these things so many times

I guess i got your point now, do you want me to add 1.35V and 1.3V for VCCIO and VCCSA?

Don't give up lets continue this, curiosity not only killed the cat, it got to me too.:p

Ordered my i7 8700k today, noticed it had shot up to £449 on Scan.
Had a look around and found it on Amazon for £303!

@cadaveca
Quick question about ram again, would going with 3000mhz ram be a good option?
With your offer of help I may get better temps but if not I am I correct in saying I could set it to 2666mhz settings which uses 1.2 instead of 1.35v?

I'm a worried about what temps the i7 8700k will run at,I've read a few posts of quite high temps at stock settings.
I was going to get an As Rock extreme 4,I will eventually try a mild overclock but probably not yet and certainly not anything extreme,is this board ok?

Or should I put the extra and go with the Asus Rog maximus hero, the extreme 4 is about £100 cheaper

The problem with 3000 MHz is that it's not really natively supported. You get 2933 MHz and 3200 MHz. You'll get a slight BCLK OC to reach 3000. You can see this here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Ballistix/Tactical_Gaming_DDR4_TUF/4.html

I prefer ASRock over ASUS myself. It's not that ASUS makes bad stuff, but I like how ASRock does certain things better. ASRock isn't perfect, either. Most of my systems are based on ASRock motherboards, but as you can see in that review above, I definitely have an ASUS Z370 TUF board. That board...ugh. It grinds my gears. So you'll have to decide if the features on offer are worth the added cost for you personally. Which board you use, based on what you've said about your needs already, won't matter for your daily uses. You could get the cheapest possible and be happy with it, I think.

@cadaveca I finally got my pc back today after upgrading.

Decided on the Asrock extreme 4 i78700k and corsair vengeance 3200mhz ram.
Any help on setting up the ram would be appreciated,as I've mentioned before I didn't intend to overclock the cpu for now,not sure it's needed gaming at 1080p.

But I'd like to use the ram at 3200mhz without adding lots of extra heat,do I adjust vccsa and vccio?

I've read a post on the Asrock forums where a previous Bios version was making xmp unstable and someone posted to lower the vccsa to1.15 and vccio to 1.1,think the bugs fixed now but the post says it was stable at that so lowering to those settings would lower temps?

http://forum.asrock.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=6860&PN=1&title=z370-extreme4-xmp-bug

Think it's been set up already.Does this all look ok ? Or should I make adjustments?

If your Ram is 3200MHz enable XMP profile and it should run at it is rated speed.

think it's been set up already.Does this all look ok ? Or should I make adjustments?

Ram speed-OK
Temps-OK
VCCIO-OK
VCCSA-OK

Note: those are Idle Temps.
