Apparently, there are two versions of the i7 920. One with d0 stepping and one without. Is this true? Can anyone confirm? Does anyone know how if one can choose between the two?

Thanks

yes there are 2 different steppings there is the C0/c1 and there is the D0
the D0 Stepping seems to clock better the the C0/C1 stepping
the D0 stepping is newer also

Do all the i7 920s currently available feature D0 stepping?

On the retail box, make sure the S-spec says SLBEJ.

That thread is entitled: Intel I7 C0 VS D0

I know the difference between the two, I know how the stepping works.
SSpec for the c0 is: SLBCH
SSpec for the d0 is: SLBEJ

I just need to know if there is a way of ensuring that I buy the one with d0 even though I am ordering from an e-tailer. Has Intel not discontinued the c0 i7 920 processors?

They have, but there's always a chance that certain stores have some old stock left.

Yeah, you could always get an older one from the back of the warehouse. But you can ask the e-tailer if they will hand-pick your chip and make sure you get the right stepping. I have heard a few people have luck this way. Even if they ask for a reason, you can just tell them that there is a weird compatibility error or something and you need that specific batch ;)
