Thats an awesome choice on the MOBO, esp if you want M-ATX.

I got the same one and its Tops:rockout: Just be aware, I got mine open box as well and it didnt come with a backplate, as a matter a fact it only came with the board only.

As for the ram, Find something that does 1600@ cl7 IMO.

GL in your search.

I highly recommend the Gene, it's a solid motherboard with lots of features packed into a small(er) form factor. You can't appreciate the beauty of it until you see have in your hands.

If you have a HAF 932 there's absolutely no reason to go mATX unless you get a very good price on a mATX board. Go ATX, it gives you a lot more options to choose from within whatever budget(s).

I would recommend against buying open box motherboards off Newegg unless you don't care for the I/O shield, particularly with the Gene because it comes with a neat little LCD poster that may or may not come with the board. They're not necessities, but they're nifty. :D

so whats the difference between the 2 asus boards?
this is a noob question...d0 stepping i know the 920 supports it how bout these boards is it a bios setting or just built into the chip set?

price wise any of the last 2 would suit the budget better but depending on the differences i could pay for the more expensive asus

why not go with a decent p55 board, i5 750/i7 860?

or du you have the 920 already since you wanna get a x58 board?

it will cost you less and have around the same if not better performance

C0 is the first i7 920's, they use more power and are hotter than the newer D0 wich use less power/volt and its cooler = better for overclocking,

and no bios update needed i think

i have the 920 ordered, i got it at a fair price $199 from micro center. the 860 was a bit more expensive and the i5 really didnt benefit me comparing fps charts at $$ per performance gain. i could still get the i7 860 as i havent picked up the processor its $20 more tho and not as good as a O.C'er from what ive read the i7 920s are the better processor for gaming as long as u OC them.

yeah well that is a good price, but the p55 have on die pci-e(correct me plz) wich makes it better for gaming.

but forget it, the good boards costs aroung 150USD +

sĂĄ it will end up around the same price overall anyway.

but if i were you i would take the first asus i linked to

lol ya, the 1366 and the 1156 debate goes back and forth theres a post in system builder advice that i read wich lead me to the 920 the chip is less expensive with 3 chan memory support, but the boards are a bit pricet and the 1156 is bit older with the older stepping but cheaper boards..

the 1156 is the newest platform by intel, 1366 older than 1156.

but nevermind.

the 920 DO wil run 4.0-4.2 easy with a good cooler.

and most boards will take the 920 to 3.8 at least very easy, only heard the asrock boards being crappy with overclocking at those speeds, burnt sockets and s****

and besides, you will have more future with the 1366 board

NP, the E8400 is a nice cpu still, but you will have way better performance with the 920 i can assure you:-D

and if you get a sweet deal for another 4890 then take it and put it in Crossfire, it will be like a gtx-295 or better, for half the price.

but then you might wanna upgrade that PSU of yours, dont think i can handle the load?

its gonna be close, according to the psu calculator, im not sure its accurate with the 2x 4890s, but it said 520w with a 1.3vcore wich was my estimated over clock voltage? the 4 230mm case fans and the 2 samsung f3 HDD's. if all else ill hold off on the extra 4890. when prices come down ill buy a 700w psu and the 4890. the e8400 is going into my back up machine wich has the e5200.

i really like my 4890 even tho everyone keeps telling me to sell it and get the 5850, 2 4890s are the same price minus the dx11 capability. i will out perform the 5850 i believe

You're going to need a new PSU if you plan on running an OCed i7 and a pair of 4890s. While the OCZ StealthXStream isn't bad like some PSUs (Raidmax, Apevia, etc), it's not something I would trust to power that much hardware. Ideally, you will want something with 4 PCI-E plugs (2 per card), so I would suggest the Corsair TX750/HX750 (the HX is better in every way, but a lot more expensive)

he could go with the HX650w, i build a i7 system with 2 5870s and that psu the other day and the cpu oc'ed to 3.6ghz
and no complain from the PSU

but yeah, something like a good 700w+ psu, antec, corsair, thermaltake etc....

edit, just tried the antec psu clc and it says close to 460w for the setup you described

not sure how accurate the calculator is but it is saying 530 watts with crossfire 430 watts with 1 card. ya 4 pci-e plugs would be nice. altho i can run 1 pci-e plug per card and molex to pci-e connector on the 2nd slots of each card.

460w seems low for crossfire?

im using extreme power supply calculator has the most options including case fans etc

yeah maybe, but the 4890 still uses less power than 2 4870s i would say,

and around 500w usage for a desktop i still a lot of power, and it will make that psu sweat if he decides to try it anyway
