I7 rig running super slow

hey guys i finally got my system up and running but fomr some reason it is running something crazy slow.....programs take forever to load...the desktop takes awhile to load...iv defragged cleaned up checked for errors and i cant seem to fix it...the weird thing is the system is stable and vantage scores well. but the system itself is just slow in other aspects. their are no virus's on the machine and it was doing this before kaspesky was installed...so now im totally confused. any ideas?

Could it be because you only running dual channel memory instead of tri-channel?

i dont think so i7 is supposed to run it better anyway...i mean my 4GB of mushkin 800mhz sticks DDR2 and my old E7200 ran better than this when it was at 4Ghz and my vista install is clean i havent installed like anything im just not getting it. it benches alot better than my old rig and plays things faster but the os in genral is slower?

Reformat? I always reformat when I get a new board. I say junky driver left-overs. I don't trust those clean-up programs. I still think there's stuff left behind.

check using realtemp if your cpu is overheating

Have you been OC'ing that CPU? You might have burnt out some of the Quick Path memory channels so that it is working like a PCIex16 card in a x1 slot.

Quick test. Run some memory benchmarking software. Check against figures here or on the net. If all is OK; then it is your HDD or build. Reformat and reinstall.

If memory benchmarks are slow, then take her back to stock and see if you can bring her back to life. If not... then I'm sorry, but you are paying the "new" overclocking price. At least the CPU still works. Perhaps a tortoise, but alive nonetheless. LOL

Oh yes, and unlike a separate burnt out Northbridge, moving this CPU to a new mainboard will carry over the same problems. :-(

iv formatted twice this one was done last night

nope low 40's she loads a little over 60 but no bsods. iv checked and rechecked that all my chipset drivers etc were installed correctly and they were. i double checked and redefragged all my drives cleaned temp files off my drive (but their werent any) and i dumped everything in the temp and prefetch folders. system is still acting up.

How is your resource monitor? Would you mind sharing your voltages? Sometimes overvolting the QPI can cause it to be sluggish.

resource monitor is good under 50 processes and im only using about a gig of ram.

stock does the sam ram voltage i bumped up just now to see if that was the problem the dividers on this board are F$#@% and 1066mhz gives me 1600mhz these sticks are rated for 1333 the next lowest divider is 800 and the machine wont boot
