i7 too hot?

So i've had my rig for about 2 and 1/2 months now and i have no idea why my i7 920 idles soo hot. On stock speeds no overclock it idles at 41C-45C my cpu cooler is a coolermaster hyper n520.

any thoughts?

I would worry less about idle and more about load temps tbh...as that's where the high temps if beyond the safe area could possibly cause throttling and/or damage, wear etc. i7's from what I've read run pretty damn hot, especially on air. Many seem to go to water or even phase to keep them under control. But, what are your load temps like with a stress test like OCCT? While gaming? etc. Idle temps should be kind of a secondary concern imo...there are much other important things to worry about with load temps, airflow, stability, etc.

As Kursah said, idle temps shouldn't be a great concern. If you do want to an easy improvement on them, I would recommend getting better fans, and if you are only running 1 fan, get a 2nd, that will boost performance a bit too. But mind you idle temps won't go any lower than the ambient temp of the room you're in, and generally on air is still a bit warmer than that.

so i just ran OCCT for like 10 minutes and under full load it was about 69C is that too high?

Nope, you're fine. I had my i7 940 chip doing 90+c when I would run BOINC on it and whenever I used it for anything else it never seemed to have suffered from the immense heat.
