The ToughArmor MB872MP-B supports 12x M.2 SATA SSDs from 30 mm to 110 mm (2230 / 2242 / 2260 / 2280 / 22110) in just a single 5.25" optical drive bay. It uses 3x high-speed OCuLink (SFF-8612) connectors in the rear to support twelve M.2 SATA SSD with 6 Gb/s transfer speed per drive while reducing the amount of cable clutter for optimal system airflow and easy cable management. The removable drive tray design with an innovative adjustable M.2 locker allows you to interchange M.2 drives without using tools or screws.

The 40 mm fan with 3-Mode fan speed control working along with intelligently placed ventilation holes keeps your drives in optimal temperatures. The device and trays are made out of heavy-duty metal to ensure long-lasting durability. The ToughArmor MB872MP-B's high storage density design makes it suitable for high-performance systems with limited storage space, such as high-performance PCs, home servers, workstation PCs, and data centers. It's designed for systems that require high IOPS, high capacity, and low latency storage access.

MB872MP-B connects 12x M.2 SATA SSD with only 3x OCuLink (SFF-8612) data connector and 2x SATA 15pin power connector for easy cable management and better system airflow. These are essential for high-performance PC builds.

A typical M.2 drive is installed on the motherboard or adapter card with tiny screws, which can be a troublesome and time-consuming process. However, with the MB872MP-B, the frontal removable drive tray design makes the M.2 SSD installation and removal a straightforward process without using any tools.

The ToughArmor MB872MP-B is equipped with a patent-pending M.2 adjustable locker for tool-less drive installation/removal. Simply insert the M.2 SATA SSD (2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110), move the adjustable M.2 locker until it firmly secures the SSD and closes the lid. The whole process takes less than 10 seconds to complete, saving your valuable time and resources.

Optimal Cooling Efficiency
The specialized slimline tray is made with thick aluminium and acts as a heatsink to dissipate heat generated by the M.2 SATA SSD. Additionally, using 3x OCuLink cables instead of 12x SATA cables reduces cable clutter and improves the system airflow.

The included thermal pad fills the contact surfaces gap and transfers heat away from the M.2 SSD to the huge heatsink tray, allowing airflow to dissipate the heat away efficiently. Powering up the twelve drives at once can accumulate heat. Therefore, we have included a 40 mm cooling fan with adjustable 3-Mode fan speed control, providing airflow throughout the entire cage. Depending on your requirement, select the proper fan speed to keep the drives at optimal operating temperatures, even under heavy load.

Key Features
  • Fits 12x M.2 SATA SSD of all lengths, 30 mm (2230), 42 mm (2242), 60 mm (2260), 80 mm (2280), and 110 mm (22110).
  • Installs into 1x standard external 5.25" device bay
  • Powers 12x M.2 SSD through 2x 15-pin SATA power connector
  • Connects 12x M.2 SSD through 3x OCuLink (SFF-8612) connector
  • Transfer speed up to 6Gb/s per drive and support hot-swap feature
  • 40mm cooling fan with three-mode fan speed control (high/low/off)
  • Removable drive tray with tool-less drive installation for easy drive maintenance
  • Huge heatsink tray with thermal pad included dispersing heat from the drive
  • Anti-Vibration Technology - Creates a safe environment for SSDs
  • Active Power Technology - Saves power by shutting off the device when no drive is installed
  • Drive ID plugs are included to keep track of your drives
  • Eagle-hook tray latch securely holds the tray inside the enclosure
  • EMI Grounding - Protects SSDs from electrical damage
  • Supports SATA power cables with locking latch design

Some SSDs can get pretty hot...is that 40mm fan going to keep 12 of them cool enough? I know they don't have many options given the form factor but I wonder if it could be a problem...

This is not for NVMe, but for SATA SSDs, so heat shouldn't be an issue

It's always nice seeing the 5.25 bay being given new life via IcyDock and their bay systems that easily aid with turning an old PC case into a budget server. Bonus since some PC case makers still include at least 1 5.25 bay for the rare specialized add-in (CD/BD Drive, multi-card slot reader, hot-swap bay, etc).
