id's lead designer Tim Willits had the following to say regarding id's iminent move to join up with Windows Live Games in order to combat game piracy.
Some people say it's a little too Big-Brotherish, but it's a legitimate progression of making the PC feel more - not like a console, but like a closed system. For us, if there's a way to link a Live account into your security for your game in a nice closed system, it would help reduce the piracy, which kills us, and is killing the industry. At least Microsoft is doing something, and I think that they're in a position to do it

Finally in responce regarding a question that a lot of gamers have complained that Games For Windows require Windows Vista to run and an annual subscription to enable multiplayer achievements and playing against Xbox 360 players he had the following to say:
The whole system's young and Microsoft's made some mistakes, but they're fixing it. As we move forward, if it can help prevent piracy, if it can help people connect together, if it can help things be more uniform, so when end users buy any PC game they know how to connect, they know how to search for games - I do think it will help the games industry, and it's just the way things are going to need to move

I won't buy any game ever that has some annual payment system for multiplayer. Well if the game is free and playing it (1 year) only costs the same, then it's ok. Somehow I don't see that happening.. :) Creedy *astards. First they make all games console ports and then wan't us to pay extra for them.

ROFL! Well at least Open, liberated systems will be safe. Such as GNU+Linux. :laugh:

And the industry? What, is game development a process of repetitive production of physical goods, is that what happens when producing teh codes?

maybe more ppl would buy games if they where worth playing for more than a month before all the assholes find all the glitches and exploits in the game to ruin it.

that sentence didn't make sense to me either to summarize

DEVELOPERS, make games that i don't have to constantly find another room because theres a squad or group of ppl constantly glitching in some way for teh win *cough* EA *cough* Epic
oh the hell with it BUNGIE/MICRO$UCK:mad:

ive been a gamer for a long time but the current trend is developers charging me more for games that suck ass and are full of glitches that they know about and still don't fix
such as BF2142 if anyone here can explain why my system specs are well above even the "recommended" specs for this game yet i cant get a steady frame rate above 40 in titan mode ?

I don't know I sure like steam, and it seems to have help stoped Piracy with Half life 2.

Steam will survive thanks to games like CS:S and other free mods, the CS online community has been there for many years and constantly updated with better gameplay/graphics/realism etc.

I won't sign up to anygames that require "Windows Live" but on Steam I'd definitely consider it if the game is any good.
