If I sell my R9 290X now, what to buy as a replacement?

I think I'm going to list my Sapphire R9 290X BF4 card on eBay, they're fetching upwards of $300 right now. I'd take of the waterblock and put the reference turbo jet back on it.

Assume I pocket $250, what would be the best air cooled replacement for around $275? Seems like the answer is clearly a GTX 1060 ...any other options in that range?

Very unlikely I'd go anything more that 1900x1200 for resolution.

This will be the first NVidia card I've had in over a decade, reminds me of this:

I can think if a few options.

Buy some used 970s , or a 1050 TI or 1060, or RX 580 (although The RX 580 isn't much faster than a GTX 970.)

Unfortunately 980tis on there are back up to holy crap 500$, id vote for either a 1060 or if you can get some more like by selling the block maybe a 1070. AMD cards are almost entirely out of the question if you game and don't mine, only other thing i could think of is maybe a 980.

A friend of mine sold his 290X for $400 CAD at the end of last week.

With that money, you might be able to find a 1070 used if you look hard enough.

That sold out in a hurry. I signed up for a notification, but nadda.

I reduced my budget to $250, assuming eBay / PP will rape me.

The crappy part about the gpu market right now is that AMD really has no competition for anything beyond the 1060. The 1070 is only matched in quantity of RAM by the 580 but as far as raw performance goes, it's seriously lacking...I can't remember the exact numbers but I think the 580 is like 40% behind(but it shows in price so thats a good thing since the Damn 1070's are almost $350-$400). The market needs this competition for the consumer to benefit and sadly AMD is just taking it where the sun dont shine currently.

Id try and hold off, or go 1060 if upgrade is a must.(or save some $$ and go 1070

Except for mining, lol. Yeah, too true, the 1060 is not to far beyond a 290x, so it's almost a zero sum game if I do that. The good thing would be less power consumption, but I don't spent a lot of hours playing, especially in summer.

ebay will charge you 10% and i think paypal with 3%, not to sure about paypal.

I thought about selling mine too but for me at least it just is not worth the hassle for some thing a little better, although i have more incentive to keep mine as it carry's a life time warranty.

Unless you can get enough together for a 1070.

Honestly, I would hold on to the 290X for a little while longer, that's what I'm doing with my 390. Right now, there aren't many cost-effective solutions for something better.

I'm kind of in the same boat here. I have a 290 and a pair of 7970's. Not sure if I want to sell all three of the cards and go something "better" or not.

The dual 7970's have EK blocks and a ton of EK FC bridges that go along with em.

Not sure if it would be worth the effort to sell all of these or not.

Put the Sapphire BF4 290x reference card BIN @ $320+$20 Shipping, it sold within 8 hours. Next up is the XFX DD, I'm going to list it for the same tonight, then the EK FCWB

The GTX 1070's on Newegg seemed to have taken a huge jump just over the past weekend. Cards going for $394 AR have jumped $50, I assume demand is up for them too.

Now it'l be a waiting game. Both rigs have integrated graphics, so they're still usable and I also have an HD 3870 to tie me over for "some" gaming ;)

My only issue really, is I don't have an Ebay account. :p

I would have to rely on selling them in tech forums.

Def a much wider audience on eBay, but the downside is... it's eBay and Paypal  Immediately, paypal takes $10.08 off the top and I expect eBay to run around $20

I joined in 2001 or so, and it really was great back then. Very few rules and if you were smart, you could do quite well.

As I've corrected you in other threads, 980TI runs stronger than the 1070.

As for OP, is the 1060 6GB not an option?

Def a much wider audience on eBay, but the downside is... it's eBay and Paypal  Immediately, paypal takes $10.08 off the top and I expect eBay to run around $20

I joined in 2001 or so, and it really was great back then. Very few rules and if you were smart, you could do quite well.

And top of that it's not 10% of the item sale it's the total value meaning including the shipping, thankfully it's just a video card :).
