Iiyama rolled out the ProLite GB2773HS-2, the company's latest monitor designed for high-speed applications, such as games. This 27-incher may offer just Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, but tops it up with 144 Hz refresh rates, and 1 ms (GTG) response time. To keep up with those specs, the monitor relies on either dual-link DVI, or DisplayPort. It also supports HDMI 1.4, but refresh rates will be capped at 80 Hz, due to a bandwidth limitation. The monitor features an LED-backlit TN-film panel, with maximum brightness of 300 cd/m², and dynamic mega-contrast ratio. Its viewing angles are rather narrow at 80° vertical, with 85° horizontal. Its stand offers tilts of up to 17°, and swivels of up to 90°. Slated for later this week, the ProLite GB2773HS-2 is expected to be priced at 43,800 JPY.

The 80 Hz limitation makes no sense. HDMI 1.4 supports 8.16Gb/s of bandwidth. While it makes sense that they can't do the full 144Hz (since it needs 8.32Gb/s), they should at least be able to do 120Hz (which requires only 6.86Gb/s).

The numbers I stated are after the encoding overhead. I suspect that this is a limitation of the interface chip that Iiyama chose to use rather than an issue with the HDMI specification itself.
