I've been running the RC now since it came out and I'm so impressed with it, that I'm getting it early with a TechNet sub! :toast: It'll be released for download in a day or two.

I've significantly reduced the effective cost of the sub too, by some canny buying and selling. ;)

In the UK, Vista Ultimate SP1 full retail costs about £165 with a free upgrade to 7. However, 7 Ultimate full on its own is about £190. You can see which is the better buy, hehe.

Anyway, by eBaying the sealed copies of Vista & 7 I have significantly reduced the effective cost of a TechNet sub, which gives you so much more than a simple software purchase. I've already sold Vista on eBay.

The overall cost I will feel will be about £165 - the same as Vista - making the subscription element only about £100 or so, which is fantastic.

The sub is currently reduced from £285 to £240 with a 15% off offer on the MS site, which really helps bring the cost down.

Now I just have to wait for my TechNet sub to activate. :D

From what I've read this will be the rtm version which you can find on the net, still will have to goto a store to get the final product, but IMO all system and core files should be identical to retail.

Microsoft has sent out an e-mail to members of the invitation-only Windows 7 Technical Beta Program about their free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. Even though we emphasized that this offer is only for testers that were invited into the beta program (read: it isn't available to those who tested the beta and/or RC builds when they were released to the public), we received many inquiries about who would get a free copy. So again, to clarify, if you don't have an e-mail titled "For Windows 7 Technical Beta participants only - A free copy of RTM" from msftconn@microsoft.com sitting in your inbox, you won't be getting a free copy, at least not as a beta tester. Here is the body of the e-mail in question "ARs Technica"

Like i said its rtm, and most people already have it

Heh I'm running Win7 RTM on my lappy, it runs well and uses about 40% less RAM than Vista did, not to say that I haven't enjoyed vista and it's beauty but this low end laptop NEEDS MOAR RAM!
