I'm Looking for the best MOBOs

I am looking for the best motherboards for my EVGA 9800gtx.

Intel Processor
2x PCI-E 2.0
DDR3 (8GB)
SATA and IDE

I'm going to get the 750i model (doesn't qualify as 'the best' but is $50 cheaper) to run dual GTX200 series cards on.

To the OP; You need to narrow your search to either an Intel LGA 775 processor (Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad) or an Intel LGA 1366 processor (Core i7). Then you can find out what motherboard may be best for you...

By the way 1) of course I'm assuming 775 since he only has a 9800 and 2) if you're not migrating current DDR3 memory to this new system then you should stick with DDR2 as the performance increase is none.

I only have G. Skill DDR 667. So are you stating that the difference between DDR2/DDR3 is minimal and not worth the upgrade?

I don't have too much experience in this area, but it CAN be noticeable, but the difference is VERY minimal.

Oh yes, everyone will tell you the same thing about DDR3. Get an EVGA 750i/780i FTW model and some really good DDR2.

k. I currently have a C2D 2.16 but I am upgrade to a Quad Core.

Damn, I have had nothing but trouble with NVIDIA chips and Quad cores.

i7/X58 is probably the way to go, considering you want DDR3 anyway.

Thats if you can afford it.

Then put the money for the new quad you were going to get, into a i7 920 or something.

If you're doing a complete upgrade, I7/X58 is the way to go. Gigabyte X58-UD3R can be had for about $160-180, I7 920 around $250-260, and several 2x3gb sets of DDR3-1600 for about $100. Not that much price difference between core 2 and I7 any more.

If you can sacrafice the IDE, go with a Core i7 920 with an Evga Classified boards it supports all the way up to 24GB if DDR3 ram and overclocks like a beast. Put a 1200W PSU and some HD4890s and you got yourself a hell of a machine.
