Don't get me wrong though, I've always loved the idea of raw performance 2 budget cards can output.

Be it ATI and NVIDIA, right this moment NVIDIA has what I need, before I was looking for raw performance now I'm looking for some stability and smoothness, I know a 4870 1GB can give me that feeling but after experiencing what 2 4850's can I do not want to lose FPS, hence why the 285 is perfect because its on par and its a single GPU card meaning I don't have to worry about scaling, stuttering etc.

I would like to take another step into the unknown and play around abit, if I was still looking for raw performance I'd have sold one of my 4850's and bought a 4850x2 for tri fire but that will no doubt give me a headache to setup and I wouldn't notice any improvements over 60 fps from the games im currently playing... WoW, Last Remnant and Crysis Wars(Low Settings for hit rego!)

Now THATS some pure fanboyism right there. :nutkick:

To the OP..........I swapped out my 9800GX2 for the GTX285 for some of the same reasons your stating........smoother framerate......no CF/SLI configs too bother with anymore......I won't say it smokes my GX2....but min framerate is alot better now.

I'd prefer a 285 over 4850's. Although 2 4850's are cheaper the single nvidia card will use less power (i think) and plus the drivers are superb and the dark side have cookies.

Gainward, IMO they use high grade/binned GPU's, I am a great fan of theirs even though I currently own an XFX card, neiother have ever let me down but Gainward have always overclocked amongs the very best, I used to have a Gainward GTX260 that overclocked to 795 core out of the box :D

None that I am aware of. Never been a problem for me, if the card goes bad I just put the stock cooler back on again!

XFX did have that for some time, at least for some models. But I don't know if they allow that anymore. I think BFG had it too, and maybe EVGA, Zotac and Palit at some point and models. But as I said, I don't know if they allow it anymore.

Ahhh ok, I'm not familiar with the heat output of NVIDIA cards, all I know is that the only card that I can recall having issues with heat was the 8800 series.. :S

Dammit, my card won't do much more than 750 Mhz, 725 Mhz for everyday use...

Bah, I knew that when I bought it, being Gigabyte. Works like a charm anyway, cool and quiet at +700 Mhz and for 200 € when other brands were selling at 250€...
