I'm thinking of building a PC and need some feedback

I'm thinking of building of a new pc and I have looked at some components that I think are good and will work together and I was curious if they really will work together, and if there are similar components for a better price. Finally should I just by a version of windows xp, vista, or linux?
The parts are as follows: XFX nForce 680i LT SLI Motherboard, Diablotek CPA-901 Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with Ultra LS600 600-Watt Power Supply, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz, 8M L2 Cache, LGA 775, Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB Hard Drive - 7200, 8MB, Serial ATA-300, OEM, Sony DRU-V200S/BR DVD Rewritable Drive SATA, Corsair XMS2 2 GB (2 X 1 GB 240-pin DDR2 800Mhz Dual Channel Memory Kit,EVGA GeForce 9600 GSO - 384MB GDDR3, PCI-Express 2.0, Dual DVI, HDCP, DX10.

Looks like an okay setup. What's your budget and what will the PC be mostly used for?

One thing off the bat; Power supplies that come with cases aren't usually the highest quality. Get a case w/o a PSU and invest in something lieka COrsair or PCP&C PSU.

yeah, give us a budget and we can more than likely put together a better system than what you have listed for the money.

Also, like Don said, buy a quality power supply, be very wary of power supplies to come with cases(rarely you can get a good PSU on a combo deal, but usually with those combo deals, the PSU is shit. Ultra PSU are shit to my understanding.)

I like Shadowfolds offering, but you could get the NXZT Tempest, Thermaltake V9 or Raidmax Smilodon. The Raidmax has a 500W psu which you could save and run a WC setup with later or for a rainy day

Then I suggest the build I already list as a sample. If you prefer a Intel chipset over a nvidia chipset, the get the Asus P5Q Pro Shadowford listed(it's a few dollars cheaper than the 750FTW board)

Thanks for all of the help I think I'm going to go with the set up by barbaricsould except I am thinking of exchanging the case he suggests with the on suggested raidmax suggested by wareagle, mainly because that case looks cool and is pretty cheap. Thanks for all of the help!

yeah, that case was one picked by the person I was giving advice to. I usually leave case choice up to the guy/girl buying the stuff as personal taste has alot to do with picking a case.

As for XP or vista, go with whichever you prefer. Vista SP1 does run as good as XP, but XP still does the job. Like the case, it's a matter of personal preference.

Or you can go with a Q6600 at around the same price range if you like to multi-task a lot.
