In need of a new PSU... which to choose?

I looking for a new PSU so at the moment im stuck between

Or if anyone has any other suggestions

also which would be better a single 12v rail or 4 12v rails

if you wondering about fortron, they make psu's for the companys like OCZ check the psu guide for a better list, but FSP makes rock solid units, under their own name or under other names, they also offer a better warr then most other companys, 2years dirrect warrinty, most others give you one year at best Or make you deal with the place you bought it for warrinty service.

I have a 400watt fortron saga seirse psu runnin 4x hdd's, 2 burners, x1900xtx OR 8800gt(gt is in being rma'd, it was over heating when underclocked with fan at 100%) cpu is an OLD windsor 256, 3600+@2.55gz, 4gb wintec ampx ram at 2.27v(1022mhz, stock is 800)

psu dosnt even get warm under HOURS of gaming, i can play any game you like without the psu getting hot, dispite the cpu having high draw(shitty 3600 90nm chip.....) oh yeah, also ght 6 lighted case fans(lighted because i had them and they worked....)

honestly, fortron rocks, and you WANT your psu to be EPS12v because most new good boards have 8 pin 12v power connectors for the cpu, aka eps12v, the ones i listed are such

there where others i could list theres a seasonic but its only 650watt, and you seem to be very set on 700watt range.

but remmber this, watt rating dosnt mean much really, amps matter, watt rating had no set standred everybody has to follow, if you read specs of some even named psu's you find that they can only supply tha advertized wattege if they are running inside a refrigerator or on the south poll.......its quite frustrating to be honest

iuf you need amps, check out ePower units, their 550watt atx/2ps12v unit has 20amps per rail on 12v(combine its 38amps) and ePower is just OEM topower, topower make corsairs psu's as well as MANY of the other rebadges you see on the market, they are the same class as fortron, high quility, you just pay less for them if you buy dirrect insted of buying rebadge and paying for a name.

i have use many of both brands as replacements in servers and high end workstations, and, well you cant beet them, price to quility they can go against units you pay 3-4x as much for(hell many times they make those units and then who evers selling them just re-badges them.....)

I'll pick Corsair TX750W. It's very affordable these days.

About the +12V rails question, end of it Amps are all that matter. On a PSU with a single high-amp rail, power is distributed better since components can get a greater share of power whenever needed. The Corsair HX1000W uses two 40A rails. That's a very nice way to distribute.

lol no but in all seriousness, PCP&C isn't all it's cracked up to be, I'd take a similar unit from Corsair or FSP any day, it'll be much cheaper and likely stronger 12v rails with less ripple

exectly, the pcp&c units are nice BUT I have seen them die or have weird flux under heavy load(as has been noted in some reviews) they are no better then any other top OEM really, on the other hand fsp tends to UNDER rate their units.
example: i have a 300watt sparkle (fsp) psu that as 15amps on 1 12v rail, yet its powered an am2 rig with x1950gt videocard and 4 hdd's for a few months because i couldnt afford a new psu when my antec 480watt died(caps blew, and antec told me to return it to where i bought it, the place i bought it had gone out of buisness.....they didnt care....)

i also have a couple enermax 300watt units that have been under simlar loads for months/years at a time without even a hint of strain, i have also have ToPower built units that lasted under loads most people would say should have blown them instantly, and they ran for years and years like that.

i had a weird little brand that started with a Zulex or something, they where just OEM ToPower units, the shop i use to work at got a great deal on 150 of them, some of those units are still in use in high end scsi raid server setups, these are units that are rated like 280watts, powering 8+ 10k-15k rpm drives as well as multi cpu's and fans.

basickly its about quility over "name brand" a unit sold dirrectly by an OEM under its own name tends to have a higher quility then some brands like antec(antec has a bad habbit of buying their units from the bottem of the baril insted of the top....then charging top of the baril prices.....)

Theres 1 reasion i dont got a high watt psu, because its not needed, if you caculate the acctual watt draw of my system, im well under "rated" specs, dispite the fact that the videocards i have both say they requier 450+watt psu's, when they say that, then tend to over estimate for 1 reasion, they hope by exagerating the requierments people will endup buying a unit that can acctualy take the load, as aposed to a cheap shitty generic unit thats rated at 850watts but cant even post with an 9800xt pluged into it(see this happen to people, kinda funny to be honest )

as i have said, buy a quility brand that stands behind their goods, and your less likely to have problems, in this case buying dirrect from the orignal oems that make the top rated units is a good place to start since none of the top OEM's are gonna sell stuff thats gonna give them a bad rep and loose them rebadge sales.
