Hi

My 3770k 8gb ddr3 system is dying so I'm going to build a Zen+ system and upgrade to 7nm Zen 2 when it's released on the same motherboard.

I was thinking:

- 2600x: overclocks itself, just plug and play for max performance as I CBF to OC manually

- MSI tomahawk b450: recommended a lot on Reddit. Would it be OK for Zen 2 with the VRMs it's got?

- 3200 MHz Samsung b die ram 16gb: not sure whether I should spend the extra for faster ram or just get the hynix stuff same speed higher CL, not always guaranteed to hit advertised speed though

Will be mostly used for gaming with vega64 at 1440p 144hz

Thoughts?

check pcpartpicker.com, for prices, comparisions, potential compatibility issues etc...

the 3200 ram is good, I have built several rigs recently with it and neveranottaproblemo....no point in wasting $$ where it will not get you significant performance increases....

you did not mention your intended GPU, but I suggest you get a 1080xx for now, perhaps move up to a 2080xx later when the prices come down abit...........

Keep looking for BF deals this week, you might snag a few parts for a lot less money. Waiting for Zen2 might be iffy because there's no indication that consumer parts will be launched in the first half of 2019, now if you have enough budget for 2700(x) I'd suggest get that instead.

2700x or 9700k are both solid choices. The real increase in perf will be with Intel's 10nm and AMD's 7nm, both of which should be brand new architectures, combined with a large node shrink. 3200/14 ram is ideal, and you can just OC if you want more.
I'd invest in a great PSU like the Seasonic Prime Titanium series or equivalent, especially with a Vega card. The efficiency increases can take around 25-50w from your thermal budget of the entire PC, plus a solid PSU is great for longevity, relative quietness and overclocking.
