I think it's the R version check SPS # I heard this is the updated version. I'm not sure ¿could u confirm?
anyway speeds are crap 5-15MB/s file transfer windows smb and tends to hang and freeze windows 10 for a moment. It's WIFI AC it should be awesome but not!
even with intel drivers this card is very poor and bad function.

¿What can I do? could you guys recomend me a driver for it? I installed it on the mini half pci-e port on the laptop ASUS K53SD from OCT 2012.
The wireless N that was on this pc worked but I wanted something better.

¿IS THERE A BETTER FASTER CARD THAN THE 7260AC?

You loaded these???: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...re-and-Drivers-for-Intel-Wireless-7260-Family

And you uninstalled the old drivers???

And you did this from a CMD prompt as Administrator: netsh int ip reset
Reboot
Then you re-added your ssid and passwords from scratch?

The 9260 is much faster. If you want the best though WIFI 6 cards can be had for $25 and you don't need a WIFI 6 router to enjoy some of the key benefits.

We're all assuming that his 2012 laptop doesn't have a Whitelist excluding other cards. But assuming he got by any bios configuration on boot-up, then it could be just a matter of drivers and clearing out the old.
Another leap forward in adapters might cause more issues??? He also didn't explicitly say that was a new card, so if used it could be FUBAR.

You're right, but its way more complicated than that.

802.11ac automatically degrades based off of network conditions. Two 802.11ac devices could talk to each other at 1MBps speeds if network conditions are terrible. Devices automatically switch between this chart (http://mcsindex.com/), searching for the fastest speeds for any given situation.

---------

Step 1: How's the antenna? Did you mess up the antenna during installation?

The 7260 is plenty fast, I had it in my last laptop, i have it in my current ASUS PCE-AC55BTthat's been sold by the boatload. Gigabyte re-brands the exact same adapter in the GC-WB867D-I (both come from the same factory). My first question would be did you place the antenna properly and to the correct connector? Was the card purchased used or new?

lol just beat my post by a second, my thought as well

1) Signal strength/what router (model), you are connecting to ?
2) Does it connect in AC ?
3) Do you connect to 5GHz (2,4GHz range does NOT get faster with AC)
4) Are you using 80MHz channels on 5GHz ?
5) Is channel you are using used by other WiFI local networks ?

I know it is but it is still a fundamental requirement. That is why the rest of your post is irrelevant until the OP comes back and answers the question. For all we know at this point, he could have an 11g wireless access point. Everything else, at this point, is just guessing, what if's and speculation - and a waste of everyone's time until we know what type of wireless network he has set up.

How old is the notebook? The previous antenna might be only 2.4GHz, rather than 2.4 and 5GHz.

yea that must be, the antena although actually I don't think that's the problem, and to everyone I'm connecting to my wifi ap just purchased from century link with my shiny gigabit connection. Yes is ac at 5ghz, don't know about the channel configs.

I believe this card has a short somewhere cause it caused a BSOD just now and I did unistall the windows driver and installed the intel one, and it also tends to disconnect and disable the adapter. I'm getting the wifi 6 card now, which one would you say is the best? I'm hoping my laptop from 2012 doesn't have it blacklisted.

wait I also heard you can install a new bios on my intel 7260 can i?

Those cheap default APs don't necessarily have the best compatibility. Despite being a "standard", a lot of WiFi chips do NOT work with each other. (I had a Realtek card that failed with my Verizon AP, for example).

If you have a friend's house with a name-brand AP (ex: a Netgear Nighthawk or something), or maybe a workplace environment with a high-quality WiFi AP, try testing it there.

Intel has a very good reputation with regards to compatibility though. If you're buying Intel, it probably should be compatible, since that's one of the chips that everyone tests against in their labs.

I'm getting the wifi 6 card now, which one would you say is the best?

Lets put it this way: the WiFi6 standard isn't even published yet. If you're having incompatibility issues now on years old standards, why would you move to an experimental standard with even more compatibility issues?

Yeah, WiFi 6 will be great once its working. But I personally wouldn't go for it unless you're willing to put in some work testing your radios.

I'm gonna try putting my 7260 as AP and see if my nexus 6p wont' crash.
Another blue screen of dead, I'm thinking is a driver issue. I'm gonna try the card in another laptop.
I can't use the 9260 is too tall.

Wifi 6 (also known as "ax" was published in late 2019).

My self been using it since 2020. april.

Speeds mathers from many points. Access point technology and hardware. Of course, dont forget the configuration. Signal level and signal strenght between the devices, interfierence, what channel is configurated on ap, how many user connected at the same...

Talking about intel, intel makes for peasant customers (which are we - le best networking cards). They have been in this bussiness for ages.

That's effectively a draft standard. The actual IEEE standard: 802.11ax is expected to be published in Feb 2021.

There's a whole lot of concerns about WiFi6's rollout and compatibility. The WiFi business community was never very good at inter-compatibility between systems. This whole "deploy before the IEEE-standard is finalized" thing is just a continuation of that culture.

Interesting how it work, if there are devices already supporting/using it since 2019...

I was reading you can install a new firmware for it on debian as a external file on the lib folder... not so hot.

The thing is with faster wifi cards is that your laptop being so old might not have the right kind of slot for it.

I have the same wifi card and i havent had any problems with it. Its the fastest wifi card available for old laptops like ours. definitely test it in a different laptop though. It will work so long as the laptop isnt a IBM/lenovo/Thinkpad or HP because these companies whitelist only the parts it leave the factory with so they wont allow upgrades.

So besides we'll be waiting for the next thread, ever tried without the intel drivers? Plug it in, boot up, use the basic Microsoft driver that gets automatically installed, test???

I did and the exact thing happens, disconnects and disables wifi network listing.
I deleted the driver from intel by checking the box.
