Intel 915G upgrade: P4 650 or 560?

I have a chance to upgrade the cpu on my internet surfer computer in the basement. I'm currently running a 520 2.8GHz with 2 x 512MB @ DDR400 2-3-3-6 and seems kind of sluggish running XP. The two of these are going for the same price (very cheap, really), and I can justify spending on an upgrade. To refresh your memories:

P4 650 - 3.4GHz 2MB L2 800FSB 65nm (Cedar Mill?)
P4 560 - 3.6GHz 1MB L2 800FSB 90nm (Prescott, oooh baby!)

My board is an ASUS P5GD1-VM, so I won't/can't be overclocking. I want to know if there is tangible difference going with +200MHz or +1MB L2. Any recommendations?

The 560 lacks 64 bit support, a big downer. It's going to be the 650.

P4 650.Cedar Mill runs a bit cooler due to 65nm. You will also have to flash the bios for cpu support.

EDIT:

But to also add, if its running sluggish, see what an anti-spyware scan will do before upgrading. It may help.

Have you run cleaning software? Registry cleaners, CCleaner, and defragging can speed up a computer a fair bit if it hasn't been maintaned.
But OT; go for the Cedar Mill, the extra cache is really worth it.

I suspected the sluggish performance was attributed to some sort of spyware infestation, so I reinstalled XP about 2 weeks ago, but was no remedy to the poor performance. After I upgrade to the 650, I'll look around for a used 7200rpm 2.5" hdd, as my current 5400rpm Toshiba drive is a slug (I think it does 20mb/sec reads :nutkick:

DONT spend money on the upgrade. It's not worth it. For an "internet" machine you will get near zero gains.

You say the machine is "sluggish". That has nothing to do with 2.8Ghz vs 3.6Ghz. The bottleneck is somewhere else.
