Intel is now bumping up the introduction of Clovertown(Serve) and Kentsfield(Desktop) chips. They will release Q4 of 2006 as opposed to Q1 of 2007 as origionally planned.

Kentsfield is a code-name for next-generation “extreme” desktop processor from Intel, it will feature four cores. Many Suspect that it will be two Conroe chips on the same piece of substrate. Following that same reasoning, Kentsfield will most likely have either 4MB or 8MB of L2 Cache, and the 1066MHz FSB that Conroe also has.

WoW... I have a feeling, if you like to multitask extensively?

    :)

    * These might be "The ticket to ride", just based on the CONROE series benchmarks I've seen thusfar all over the wire out here!

    APK

P.S.=> You could probably run SETI@Home, &/or F@H, on one core, with your OS/Services/background processes-apps on the 2nd core (heck split them across the first CPU) & a game like Quake 4 SMP on the other remaining 2 cores, & not miss a frame in the game @ all... amazing! apk

    Aren't AMD's Quad-cores still slated for a 2008 release?

They seem to think that they can still charge more for their processors, even though they are no longer the top of performance. I mean they are still planning on charging $1000 for their FX-62, which is outperformed easily by the $600 E6700, which even overclocks better.

I mean I hope their ignorance doesn't make them go down in a blaze of burning shit so there will still be at least some competition for Intel, but I don't see anything but that happening.

Maybe, it's a matter of "have to" - because WHO KNOWS what anyone's REAL "financial picture" is nowadays, what w/ 'artificial shortages' & 'rumors' that power the stock exchanges etc. et all, PLUS all the "book-cooking" that has gone on in the past.

Sure, legislations have been passed to stop everything bogus from JUNK BONDS onwards, but funny part is? Everytime someone thinks of a way to stop the b.s., more b.s. comes out... sort of like computer virus/malware/spyware/trojans & the like!

Plus, you have to figure their board of directors & executives (the ones with the REAL stocks in "preferred" type) have gotten greedy w/ success... usually, this always happen & they get the "lion's share" of profits, everytime.

    It's human nature I suppose - everybody's working an 'angle/hustle' & all that!

When conroe launches next week, you'll see some huge price cuts. I really don't understand your mentality, AMD will still be a financially viable alternative to those of the public that don't follow enthusiast trends. Also, do you really think the launch of Conroe garauntees wide availability?? Why would the flood the market with the newer chips, and not give their P4's a chance to sell off?? It's hard to even imagine they'd have a large supply of Conroe's at launch. I think too many people see this as the last time anyone will ever release a competing product that actually makes some technological advancement. This is the trend, it goes back and forth, just look at Ati and Nvidia. Whent the 7800 was released, Ati couldn't respond for nearly half a year. Amd will respond right away, with large price cuts, and K8L in 2007, as well as 65nm by the end of the year, core revisions and the like. At 90nm, they have dual cores that have a TDP of 65W, just think of the possibilities at 65nm. I'm waiting till the end of the year, regardless, the next purchase I make will be alongside an R600 based video card.

K8L is still slated for early 07. the whole 08 rumor was that, a rumor.
Clark Kent has already been unleashed on xtremeSystems (was quite a while ago in fact) and absolutely DOMINATES!

Finacially viable? With the slated price cuts the 5000+ is still going to be $400, and is outperformed easily by the $300 E6600. The $1000 FX-62 on the other hand is easily outperformed in everything(including overclocking) by them $600 E6700. But yeah, AMD is still a finacially viable option. :shadedshu

Yeah, it looks like it's AMD's turn to take the backseat for a while. I can't wait to see what they and ATi come up with when they put their brains (and companies) together... whatever it is should be a sight to see (imagine an ATi chipset optimized for an AMD proc and ATi graphics card... then imagine the discounts you will be able to get when you buy them together!!).

As far as the market being flooded with Conroe's... why not? There is so much hype surrounding this processor right now, people are eating them up. Answer me this: if people can't buy enough of them, then why are you going to purposefully create a short supply?

Yes, AMD prices are supposed to drop (almost half price on some) on Monday (7/24). That'll be nice for everyone!! (unless you just bought one at full price  )

    Guys,

They'll hold their TOP cpu's up in the highest price range they can, to "shake out the chumps" (lol, like me! I figured when I got the one I did, it already had sliced in 1/2 from the first prices I saw on it)...

I don't blame 'em really - they're as interested in making a buck as the next guy!

If the CONROE series is releasing next week as you guys have stated, they'll most likely HAVE to drop those prices...

Plus, if AMD is really going to buy out ATI? They'll need the money generated for that... assuming that's no rumor, & it's looking more to be the case it is real!

it's going to be $400 after the updated price cuts? initially they were as much as 46%, but they were revised to as much as 55%. Still, i doubt all processors on the Conroe line will be available in large quantities, at least not for a while.

Because it isn't intelligent marketing. They market is saturated with P4's, and at the prices they'll be dropping to, they're going to be really attractive to those on a budget. Why would intell flood the market with Conroe's, when they have P4's that can still bring in revenue? It's not as if Conroe is the only desktop chip Intel is manufacturing, they've stated many times that they'll be easing Conroe into the market. I think I read that by the end of the year, Conroe wont even account for %50 of intels desktop chips.
