Hmm, $320 for a 920 is somewhat reasonable but motherboards starting at $220, no way. Going on those figures, the cheapest you could get i7 for is $540+DDR3 memory. Expensive but that is to be expected.
cost about 1k to get a x58 6gb ram and a i7 920.... more than i want to spend atm
On overclockers uk,you can get a i7 920/board and triple channel ram kit for £669/$933.
Sweet but looks like I will wait till they come down a bit . I do not like to get them right at first then watch as the prices drop like a stone ! Makes me feel cheated . But I think this is going to be a great next build . I feel sorry for AMD ..
im a sucker for new hardware. if i can sell my stuff im probably going to upgrade.
i think it would be a good idea to wait for deneb b4 we make any hasty decisions, but if you do get it, POST SOME BENCHESSSSSSS!! and not vantage benches, useless to me...
i use DX10@1200p, blu-ray (h.264)@1080p, which are vista exclusive because of M$, i have no use for vista at all whatsoever.
yeah. im a intel guy anyway unless amd -> <- intel
Man you guys should be happy. The X58 mb's are around $600 here!!!!! Now that sux. Be happy with $220 .
I'll send one your way for 500
Tell me when your ready to order
Cheapest upgrade path to i7 in Aus (with 6GB RAM):
GA-EX58-DS4 - $500
i7 920 - $600
Tri kit 6GB 1333MHz ddr3 - $600
off to MicroCenter to pick up my Core i7 Extreme.
are they the only retailers in SoCal selling them a day early for in-store pickup? either way, I can't resist the low prices either. be back in an hour or so.
Just got back from the MicroCenter in Tustin. They had 10 Core i7 965 Extreme's and 25 Core i7 920's in stock (well, 9 and 24 now ). However, they only had 3GB and 6GB Patriot 1600MHz memory kits, so I grabbed them for now just to get my rig up and running for launch... They were also supposed to have the 6GB Corsair kits, but after the employees searched their stock for over 20 minutes they simply couldn't find any in their inventory.
I'm still waiting on the Dominator 1866MHz kit though.

Looks like someone at Intel screwed up when they misplaced this sticker. Meh, it's not the end of the world, I'll just peel it up with a blow dryer.
I thought Microcenter had it for 299 and 999 respectively? Did u get the instant savings or did you get gouged? What mobo did you pick?
WELCOME TO THE CORE i7 CLUB!
lol , I wonder how many people there knew what is Core i7 to have it sit like that on a table ...
On side note , MC Employees must be having a ball with their Employee Discount
anybody work at microcenter?
I need a MicroCenter in Hsv, al so I can work there PArt time and get a discount.
Shoot I need to work at MC, it'd be nice to get a i965
The prices were $299 and $999 respectively - stickers are wrong - and I believe they are only doing this promotion for today and tomorrow.
I'm getting the EVGA X58, but unfortunately I gotta wait until it's released tomorrow.
is moving to core i7 really worth spending $900?
I am seriously considering selling my dfi, ram, and c2d but i dk if i wanna fork out another $600 for a new proc. I did read this was the "low end" i7 procs also, so if thats the case should i hold off? and whats up with lga 1156 aka 1160?
LGA 1156 will be dual core i7's with SMT, they will support dual channel DDR3 and thus the motherboards will be much cheaper.
ok, so performance junkies want 1366. more info needed.
lynnefield, bloomfield, nehalem?
current is bloomfield right? wtf is with the other 2?
Nehalem is to core i7 as Conroe is to core 2
Bloomfield is to core i7 as Kentsfield is to core 2 quad 65nm (yorkfield for 45nm)
Lynnfield is core i7 in dual core format
ok so basically Intel is kicking us all in the balls by saying there releasing two sockets.
1366 (hella expensive)
1156 (cant freakin oc)
1366 (hella expensive) lets you oc and s bloomfield with 4 cores 8 threaded apps = HELLA EXPENSIVE
1156 (cant oc) is cheaper with dual core i7's and lower end quads with 4 threded apps =
Wait, lynnfield is also quad core too i think, just lower end ones without IMC? Time will tell, it shall be out in the summer i think
