Impressive, I'm guessing intel will have the temps sorted with Raptorlake. The power consumption/heat output is slightly disappointing but this is still so much better than Rocketlake.

Next week :) Intel CPUs arrived yesterday. I've been rebenching everything else since the W11 AMD L3 cache fix came out. Will rebench Zen 2 and 9th gen too and add them to the reviews.
That sounds like sleep deprivation lol

Yup, no sleep, but I'm happy that I made it in time, with 3 reviews and that there's now thousands of people reading each of the reviews

Hi Flanker. You mentioned on pctuning.cz, that you managed 28 593 points with your R9 5950X in Cinebench R23. Can you classify your setup and If you had PBO enabled? W1zzard managed only 25813 points in this review. As I checked many reviews have even lower scores than his.

The temps this thing hits is incredible. My 5900x can flirt with 90C, but that's because of the Noctua NH-U9S, I would say it's the very minimum you'd want to use with the 5900x (had to go with it because the profile is low enough to allow the use of the top fan in my case). I'll soon be making a change to a AIO because my new GPU is short enough to allow the mounting of a radiator; since I no longer have that 13" long 980Ti hogging all the space in my case.

The 12700k looks like a better value in comparison to the 12900k. Is there really any reason to get the 12900k over a 12700k? I'd much rather go for a 5950x if I needed the extra cores for multithreading since the power draw is lower and the performance is pretty close.

That Temp !!! So you can no longer air-cool intel's flagship even with the top of the line air cooler !!! 100c will turn your room into a furnace .
I consider my 5900 running at 76c to be pretty high and it heats up my room but 100c.. HELL NO !!!! Not to mention 300W power draw. My undervolted 3080ti only draws 30W more @ 330W.
This feels like a very bad trade off. Sacrifice all the efficiency for the sake of performance.
Physics PhD, may I presume?

What a toaster just like few last high-end Intel ones. Though competition is always good.

Will be interested to see how Zen4 competes with this.

some games are even worse than Skylake. awful .1% lows in many games. slower than a 5950x in Multithreading while consuming almost twice the power...
and i almost pre ordered one yesterday...

Well I do hope it at least makes 5950X cheaper

Local Micro Center store has the 12900K priced at $650 and the 5950x priced at $720. I'm not sure about prices for places that sell online, but if you can hoof it to a Micro Center location the prices aren't very far apart.

Running 11700 on b560i with 125w PL1 and 3080 at 1440p I can safely now avoid any FOMO after these benchmarks. My rig is primarily for gaming and there's no tangible advantage at all.

It looks to me like like they're fighting for the highest power consumption crown. 10nm, excuse me, I meant to say 7nm, with a new architecture and still horrendous power figures, how is this possible ?

Edit : I just remembered that this is supposed to have 8 "efficiency cores", holy crap this is beyond laughable. What if this was an "actual" 16 core CPU ? What would it use ? 400W ?

Comparing AMD's top consumer model to Intel's now top consumer model is perfectly fair regardless of details.

No, it's not, DDR4 vs DDR5.

And it's not about it being unfair, having just one platform on DDR5 isn't enough to infer how good these CPUs actually are. Any CPU with faster memory will also perform better, nothing new here.

A CPU hitting 100C and drawing 300+ watts is not something I would consider recommendable.

Intel samples came in yesterday, there's only so much that is possible without a time machine. Working on OC for 12600K right now, then the others. Then bench DDR4, at various speeds, bench various DDR5 speeds, turn that into an article, bench Windows 10, turn that into an article, bench older CPUs, oh and new games releasing too, and I have 5 SSDs and 2 graphics cards in the queue

You should test with a 3090... 12900k looking good
Nah, 3080 is a good realistic graphics card. Even if you sent me a 3090 I probably would stick with the 3080

Very hot and very power hungry. Better to get R9 5900X if you need lots of cores. Unless you're one of the gamers who need every frame regardless of price.

Yikes those power consumption numbers are atrocious (we're supposed to be going towards more efficiency, Intel, not backwards). Can't imagine what the heat density and cooling problems would be like on a mini ITX system.

i own 11700k... "upgraded" from 10850k because I had a chance to sell 10850k for nice sum, and bought 11700k for a half of the money I got for 10850k.. deal and a half anyway. Upgrade from 11700k to 12700k or 12900k doesn't make much sense if You are using Your pc for gaming. To see any difference You'd have to be gaming with rtx 3070 or stronger gpu on a super low resolution.. 720p Even on full hd the difference is minimal.

Overall, as much as 20% better on single thread using same watts x 5900x, same as 5900x on multithread using twice as much watts, so this cpu is mainly for single thread, for multithread stick with ryzen 5900x or 5950x.

This CPU is not a step in the right direction concerning watts. I miss those days where Intel would prioritize watts x performance. I wonder if you can lower the voltage on this as much as possible and see if on multithread performance drops only a little, might be worth, yeah you will lose single thread performance I guess, in the end 12900 might become a 5900 on single thread and lower multi thread performance than 5900x, maybe it can't be helped.

I will just skip this and jump straight in the next amd cpu with ddr5, things by then will have matured a lot more. If the next amd cpu can match 12900k in single thread without extrapolate watts in multithread then it's a win.

The difference would be even smaller in games with minor ram tweaks on the AM4 platform, it would be fair since the 12900k is running one of the best DDR5 modules on the planet. Also, why not the 3090 ?
