Which is the (approximative) maximum amount of UN-registered RAM that is safe to work with ?

I mean, initially I thought about 12 GB UDIMM, but would I reduce any risk of system crash if I choose RDIMM ? Sometimes I will leave the system running for several days with 2 VMs running, app server and db server..

wont boot on udimms

I didn't ask what happens if I choose to work with UDIMMs on a server board which needs RDIMMS or viceversa..

I asked if would be any risk of system crash with, let's say, i7 + desktop mobo + 12 GB UDIMM, or it would be a real use if I choose a platform which supports RDIMM (e.g. xeon + supermicro mobo)

sometimes i will leave the system running for days, and i need to make sure that there will be no crash
