Intel is reportedly planning on building another chip manufacturing plant in southern Israel by 2012 at a cost of $2.5 billion. The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Intel executives had been holding meetings with Israeli government officials to determine whether the company would be eligible to receive grants for the plant. Intel spokepersons declined to comment on the publication, and also refused to give more information on the future plant. That's all we know for now.

gotta love that... fiscal bribes. Don't worry the EU will take away in fines whatever "gifts" they receive from elsewhere. Funny how the money goes round. LOL

I hear wages are lower in Palestine, across the border from where they are thinking about building plant 2012.

Intel is a US based company, thus its first priority is to provide jobs in US first. Other countries need to figure out on their own how to create more jobs. We have enough problems of our own, and with todays market, unemployment is at its highest.

Sure wages are lower and taxes are lower in Palestine, or Jamaica, but do you want your workers being constantly high or taking days off half the year do to religious believes? "Sorry Boss, i cant work for the next 48 hours, i have to pray". or "I burned down your factory because i got high".

btw. Im Russian, and im half Jew, so dont tell me i'm being a prejudice or racist.

The US aren't the center of the universe mate. According to your logic and this list the plant should be built in Nauru.

Nauru is smaller then the county that i live in, its smaller then half the Golf Courses in my area. The country is TINY. It will always have the highest unemployment rate, they have nothing to offer.

So because a country is small unemployment must be higher? So China has the lowest unemployment of the world? Interesting.

Either way, according to Intel Israel has more to offer than the states.

Thats not what i said.

China is not small, its an average size country.

And what does Israel has to offer that US doesnt? Besides lower taxes and lower wages?

Actually its not true, Israel has already an Intel factory and yet the prices of their CPUS are overall higher than UK/USA.

China average? You have a strange view of the world. It's the third largest country in the world in size and the largest in population. It's everything but average.

For a company taxes and wages are basically what matter. They don't care about the sunset or whether the local steakhouse uses trans fats or not.

Its not 3rd, its tied with US, or a bit smaller, depending on how you look at it, plus or minus all the territorial waters.

Either way, that list you provided is outdated. United States has much higher unemployment rate today then 4.6%, its 8.6%.

China's unemployment rate is 4.2%, vs 4% in 2007, even though they have much much larger population.

Does intel need to ditch some taxes or what? Why build ANOTHER plant? They can't sell the what they're producing currently and I bet they're probably not running max capacity anywhere.

16% is conservative as it stands. So many people have fallen off the books, didn't claim unemployment, etc, that the rate is much higher than what the govt tries to dictate. There's an article somewhere on this. I don't feel like searching.

my guess is they want to produce Larrabee and probably other chips on newer tech
just a pure guess
