Intel is readying a new stepping of 9th generation Core processors, which could require motherboard BIOS updates. ASUS released a statement in which it mentions that Intel is preparing to launch processors based on the new stepping of "Coffee Lake Refresh" silicon from Q2-2019. It goes on to say that BIOS updates have been released for its entire line of Intel 300-series chipset motherboards for supporting the new stepping. The company doesn't mention what the stepping ID is, or what's different.

The statement reads: "ASUS has released BIOS updates for all 300 series motherboards, adding support for the forthcoming 9th Generation Intel Core processors based on new stepping. These processors are scheduled for launch in Q2, 2019. The latest BIOS updates are available for download now from the ASUS website." You can find these updated BIOS ROMs on the product page of your motherboard on ASUS website.

It's better than nothing:wtf:, but what i and i think most others wanna see as well. Is a die nm shrink and some more innovative cpu's. Intel has been on 14 nm for about 4 years now and twice as long as they used to be on the same nm die.

So unless this new revision has some thing like radical higher core clock or much improved power consumption, i am not that impressed.

I want 10th gen

You are not alone on that. I want a fresh new platform with nm die skrink and features like pcie gen 4.

I want zen 2.

We should all want both companies to do well. That would mean competition, in which everyone wins.

Right now Intel's future isn't so pretty, IMO, so craving AMD dominance is just foolish. They'll screw you just as eagerly as Intel did.

Currently (and for next few years assuming everything will go well) AMD is the underdog and AMD needs our full support.
Only once they reach 50% of market share I can start thinking about cheering for Intel.

This.

I feel exactly same way, Intel as well as Nvidia feel like they can walk on water.
Time to change the rules.

Right now I want Intel to continue to have stock shortages with its CPUs, as they're partially responsible for the decline of DDR4 prices.

Except they're making what 100~1000x AMD's profit?
Wanting competition is all good but not when only 1 company is making all the profits, same goes for Nvidia though tbf AMD pulled another Dozer in that space. The CPU space atm is great for consumers in part because AMD can make affordable "more core" chips, it could change very quickly if they're not making enough profits though. Kind of ironic don't you think?

They all but confirmed the comet lake, and with this Bios update we can all but confirm that the new 10 core chips will be on z390.

For a touch of flair, Intel's marketing should call these "really, really fresh Cannon Lake".

Maybe it was going to be the 10th gen but Intel rebranded it for "refresh". Knowing the Intel's next gen CPUs performance gains, it looks like Intel finally decided it will be a "refresh" not a new gen considering what pounding they got seeing the difference among Intel's impressive list of CPUs. Or, Intel is preparing for Zen 2 somehow? Maybe they know something?

AMD is the underdog and AMD needs our full support.
"Supporting" one party for ideological reasons is the worst thing we can do, and is part of the reason why AMD keep recycling GCN…

Based on the CPU list here the R0 stepping is not all that exciting, but there might be more CPUs coming.

While we all are a bit tired of waiting for Ice Lake, and all the media focus on Zen, it's easy to forget that Skylake is still the highest performing architecture on the market, calling it a "dead horse" is far fetched.

Thus we call it dead horse as its been brought back to life so many times.
Let it die natural death.
Its because Intel has an upper hand, thats why they are serving us same chewed up sh1t over and over.
We ask them to violate us, and so they do.

If it gets there I would hope you'd stop picking sides alltogether.

Who said anything about craving dominance? He wants Zen 2, is that so bad?

In an Intel centered thread unsolicited it does say something about you, yes.

Thus we call it dead horse as its been brought back to life so many times.

I have learned one thing over my time here... In this race what matters is not whether your horse is dead, undead, or even whether it is in fact a horse, what matters is how fast it is. That's all.

That's not even close to true. I seriously hope you don't believe your own FUD.
Ice Lake has been ready for two years, but it's waiting for a node that's ready. Coffee Lake is the "lousy" backup-plan, now in the "third" iteration.

RIP 0 Stepping.

static innovation for 4 years now. RIP Intel. ;)
I hate to rain on your parade, but if 4 years of standing still didn't end AMD, it won't end Intel either.
