Two options then, sell the z490 board or sell the 8700k + mb and get a 8c/16t chip for socket 1200 - i9-10850k is an option too if you can find one for cheap but you really don't need more than 8 cores for any game and this won't change for years, it's the perfect sweet spot for a high-end gaming pc.

I would not spend alot of cash on this upgrade, because it's going to be minor, thats why I would pick an 8 core instead, like i7-10700k or i7-11700k and not the i9. Only if cheap.

Good work sorting it out! I agree with waiting. I’ve recently upgraded from an i7-3770 to an i9-10900kf and even that doesn’t feel like a huge upgrade. Noticeable, sure, but not dramatic. Much could be made to feel faster just by refreshing Windows install periodically. Could have used my system easily for another year if 16GB of RAM were not too little for what I do, and DDR3 is not particularly cheap + only 2 slots available. I think waiting another generation will be best to get a second, more mature version post DDR5 update.
