Back in June, SiFive, a company focusing on providing RISC-V-based IP solutions, received an offer for a takeover from Intel. With a value of over two billion dollars, the company's request was on the table to accept. However, according to the latest report from Bloomberg, SiFive declined an offer and aimed to get an initial public offering or get acquired by an even larger vendor. What made the company reject, you might question?

Well, according to sources familiar with the deal, Intel's offer of two billion USD was not enough, and it interrupted the company's ideologies of operation. SiFive management didn't like how Intel would integrate the company in its roadmaps and decided to stay independent. For now, the company is looking to start an initial public offering or get acquired an even larger company that would respect its vision and guidelines, unlike Intel's offer.

Some mo'money perhaps??? Just like Groupon when they turned down Google offer of 6 Billion some 15 years ago, which would be worth some 25 Billion today in google stock, and Groupon founder failed to deliver and Groupon never succeeded to reach a few hundred million market cap along. anyways good news for SiFive is that intel is short between the legs and desperate (Thank you AMD) now so the likelihood is big that SIFive will get a bigger offer...and some mo'money

The amazong feature of RISC architectures from what I can tell is they don't have control command breaks in the pipeline. You always see the same amount of latency which feels like clockwork precision. No one judges a watch by the ticking speed.

An even bigger company, like who, not many others in the tech industry has 2 bill to throw around. was lastt valued around 500mil, so 2 bill is not a bad offer, but i understand why they turned it down. Why sell to the fat kid so he can eat it all to himself.

Hmmm. I know nothing about this whatsoever
But from the title and short article it sounds like

We are worth billions
let’s sell and get some coin
Ooo. Intel is offering 2 bill
Pfff. They can afford more than that. Cheapskates
Plus they won’t let us run the company the was we want after we sell to them
Hmmm. Well we better go for an IPO cause? Either we need money or maybe we will get values more and ask Intel for 4 bill.

I guess time will tell if some Corp will pay more than 2 bill for them

SiFive make the right thing, RiscV have a geat future in embedded systems and dont get taken by a n Asshole x86 Company

At that day ill can play my indie games via Linux or BSD without x86 ill change my main sys :),
on the best way to realised it on the path is RiscV:p

A main sys with a RiscV and an GPU from stupid Companys like AMD, Intel or Nvidia would be a dream, but no x86 shice :toast:

The question at this point is who else is making FPGA's. SiFive's stack has its most promise as coprocessors integrated with FPGA arrays in the short term.

That leaves what, AMD (Xilinix), Latice & Gowan. I can't really see any of those offering more than $2 Billion anytime soon.

Xilinx is the market leader, though. They can do better than the competition using just half of the area. It is crazy to think about it.

That's great for RISC-V in general. Intel would probably just kill them off, as corporations usually do to anyone who could disturb the status quo.

I agree that Intel might diversify, but not keep any personnel, which is why the offer was decline. Just a guess.

You say that like you think SiFive needs help. They do not. What they need is to work smart, forge ahead and make hardware offerings that are competitive. What they've shown so far is very compelling.
