Invalid boot.ini --- possible issue?

Heh, well I noticed while booting up I get a screen that says "invalid boot.ini, booting from c:\windows..."
Then it boots xp and everything. Everything SEEMS fine, but I wonder if this could become an issue?

Did you instal Style XP or some program like that. Did you at any point change your boot screen?

Shouldn't be a problem, perhaps the fixboot command in the recovery console could fix the error though.

sounds like its trying to boot from somewhere else first..

I'm guessing a file other than boot.ini is corrupt and causing the message, but I may be wrong.

if u do have a duff boot.ini.. thats it.. u go no further.. windows means exactly what it says.. without a valid boot.ini it will not boot.. period..

however if windows looks in the wrong place for its boot/ini.. cant find it but looks somewhere else and finds one it then proceeds..

the most likely explanation is in your bios.. windows is looking on the wrong drive or device first.. normally it should move on without the error message but with windows u never know.. he he

at one time the booot ini had to be on the root of C.. but there are so many boots options now it gets confusing..

I did change bios... boot priority... I changed it from this:
1. floppy
2. hard disk
3. dvd burner

to this
1. hard disk
2. floppy
3. dvd burner

Saved me some time in boot sequence

yes windows goes thru em in the order u select.. it boots from the first valid boot.ini it finds..

if u ever want to boot from the floppy or a cd.. u have to stop windows hitting the hard disk first.. so u put what u want to boot from before the hardrive else it will boot from the hardrive before it finds the boot.ini on the floppy or cd..

Well I know that but I figured instead of it searching for something THAT'S NOT EVEN THERE (floppy) and letting it access hard disk first would cut boot time and it did. Maybe it's telling me that it can't find any other boot.ini file so it looks in c:\windows and finds it?

well it was more then likly looking on a floppy/cd and came up empty. it could also be checking for other boot devices such as lanboot/usb hdd/scsi/raid.

hitting the floppy first is kinda left over from the past..
