Is 650 watt psu enough for sli gtx 770?

I have looked at a R9 290x and now i at the point where i am thinking about and extra gigabyte windforce gtx 770 oc 4gb for sli, but i only have a seasonic g 650 psu and don't want so much load on it that it get's noisy and hot.

Is my seasonic g-650 enough for sli with 2 gtx 770?

My gigabyte gtx 770 is oc'ed to 1200mhz (100% stable) and my cpu i5 3570k 4.2ghz at 1.25 volt

Nvidia recommends at minimum a 600W PSU for one card.

Two 770's combined can draw up to 500 watts, which your PSU has covered but I don't think it is going to have enough amperage.

and don't want so much load on it that it get's noisy and hot.

Then you'll definitely want to go with a larger unit.

nvidia's web site says your gtx 770 needs 230W
that x2 is 460W.
your core-i5 is 77 watts, so that makes it now 537W

i took a look at your psu, it says it can do 648W on the 12v. so i think it should just about do it. i still think you should get a better psu however as the current one just barely covers your power reqs. you can always try and see if it works out, if not then upgrade.

You should be fine. ~505w full system peak power consumption for GTX770 SLI according to Guru3D, you also have a good Seasonic Unit.

It should work but it gives you zero headroom for overclocking IMHO.

The i5 3570k at stock consumes roughly 120+ watts under load. The GTX 770 under load can consume depending on the core clock 250 watts. Just that alone is going to be 620 watts not including the system itself and not factoring in the overclock you have.

So I would say no, your going to need more power if you want to do that and have your PSU last along with keeping your overclocks.

You are right. Lesson learned.

The Thermal Design Power (TDP) is the average maximum power a processor can dissipate while running commercially available software. TDP is primarily used as a guideline for manufacturers of thermal solutions (heatsinks/fans, etc) which tells them how much heat their solution should dissipate. TDP is not the maximum power the CPU may generate - there may be periods of time when the CPU dissipates more power than designed, in which case either the CPU temperature will rise closer to the maximum, or special CPU circuitry will activate and add idle cycles or reduce CPU frequency with the intent of reducing the amount of generated power.

As others have said it should work but I think you should think about a higher capacity psu as your next upgrade. I wouldn't be comfortable running 770 sli on 650w psu if it were me though.

One of the cheapest gold psus that are still decent quality are Cougar's GX line. I have a gx1050w (overkill I know but it was a killer deal at the time of purchase). Quality 850w psus seem a pretty common choice for 2 way sli systems.
