    Hi.

A friend is selling his 6800GT, It has a 350MHZ core and 1000MHZ (effective) for the mems, also it has 16 pipelines an 16 ROPs and a 256 bit bandwidth. As far as I know more pipelines is more important than MHZ in the clocks.

So, I wanna took that 6800GT to replace my onboard 6100........but the million-dollar question is if the card IT'S TOO OLD to make an upgrade, I don't want the card to play the latest games, just to make the SO smooth, play FEAR in mid/low-settings, play emulators and keep the smoothness when I jump into Vista.

What do you think????.........OH, and I also consider a 8500GT but the DX10 support doesn't appear to help 'cause the overall performance It's kinda poor. Of course the 8500GT It's better 'cause It's newer, but I think the 6800GT outperforms it...or not???

    WHAT DO YA THINK????

    regards

6800GT for $75 or less is a decent buy. The 8500GT is a poor excuse for a video card that will not play any games @ 640 X 480 never mind higher........

mmmm, the card will cost me $90 bucks aprox.....remember that here in Mexico all are more expensive than USA so the price sounds cool to me.

You can probably find a 7900GS card thats several times better for maybe $10-$30 more.

Ahem... Oblivion 1024x768... 2xaa 4xaf... large texture size, shadows off, bloom lighting on... distand rendering on... very playable. Then I flashed it to 677/866, THAT made a difference.

My friend, the 6800GT is about as powerful as the 8500gt. If you buy this 8500gt, I will send you the BIOS I am currently using that adds a significant boost over the regular one.

Still undecided about keeping 2600XT or the X850XT, eh? Heh

The 6800GT was brilliant when released, but the 7600GT with the most optimized drivers is able to beat it. If you can get it cheaper than a 7600GT (like you said, prices in Mexico are higher, so you'll be better off looking for yourself at local sellers, or e-sellers you like), then it's defnately a good card, since the 68 still PS3.0 VS3.0 just like the 76.
Just be careful with overclocking, someone I know has one, it's power-hungry and runs hot.

Oh, and the 8500GT overclocked is good, but I'm still unsure if it's better than a 7600GT, which can still put a stock-speed 8600GT to shame in some real-world benchies. At least with the first few driver releases.

Yep. I mean, the 2600XT is pretty good. If I don't have to sell it, I won't :p.

Hell, that's fair, and that X850XT will kick the 6800GT's ass in pretty much anything thrown at it.

    take the X850XT or get a new/2nd 7600GT
7600GT will do the same as 6800GT but at a reduced power consumption
