Now that the first reviews are in and the dust has settled, what are your thoughts on AMD's new processor generation?

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
voted waiting on bug issues sorting ... but yep a R7 1700 is definitively worthy instead of a 7700/6900K

waiting for the 6 cores to drop, CAN pricing and my situation make the 8 cores out of reach. I will prolly wait a bit so they can get memory issues, compatibility and such ironed out before upgrading :)

I've already bought two x58 boards and two x5670 Xeon hex core chips (12threads) that handily break 4Ghz. I'll spend another ~$200 for MB/RAM/CPU and a good video card before I consider Ryzen. I am really, really glad to see AMD pull this out, and perhaps as the platform matures, there will be some compelling reason to think otherwise.

I can't even think of significant collateral benefits to switching, are there any?

I'm going to gamble on 6+ cores being useful in the next 2-3 years and hope AMD do actually work with devs to get better threaded (or better Ryzen) support. At least Prey should be fine and any future Bethesda title. For <£500 (<£400 if i go 1700X) I can't see a better medium to long term option if I err on the gambling on AMD side.

I'm also aware that although the fps is lower on average with Ryzen, several sites have reported good minimum values and stable gaming without stutters.

And I have a X58 with x5670 too...

I'm waiting on the 4c/8t models. Looking to replace my M-ITX system with it. While I would love to have a R7 1700, I find that I have no use for that kind of power. All the games I play are older (say 2013 or more) and I don't even stress out my I7 system much anymore. Most likely thou, I'll be replacing my bulldozer/piledriver based laptop with a mobile Ryzen. That for me would be the most noticeable improvement in my day to day computing needs.

And I have a X58 with x5670 too...

I still don't own an SSD (cough), and the ASUS does have two external USB3 ports. I hardly use USB anyway for anything other than low bandwidth peripherals.

Inn any case, yes, those are noteworthy benefits. Performance per watt is too... be interesting to run some power cost numbers.

Considering I mostly game on my PC, the Ryzen 7 has not been quite appealing to me, not to mention my 3570k is plenty fast for now, will consider AMD in the future though.

I never buy a product at launch. I will wait about 6 months for all the bugs to be worked out and optimizations completed.

But, I will definitely be going Ryzen before the end of the year.

will wait for AMD and partners to iron out things first. then will see which way to go. though since my only concern is gaming my 2500K at 4.5ghz still doing just fine for now. also for CPU i want something that could last 5 years without really bottleneck my GPU upgrade. i have this 2500K since 2012 but only last year i did start overclock it.

I'm waiting for the lower core count chips. Hopefully the boost in performance will be at least 25-30% (when paired with a decent mid-range GPU) from the i5-2400 I used. (RIP sweet prince)

I don't see any gamer upgrading from i7 2600K/3770K/4770K, unless they got money to burn.

What software do you use to render and why not using GPU accelerated?

I don't know why I put render, I meant encoding. I blame the lack of coffee and the 2 hour drive into work in 5 inches of snow.

I encode my Blu-Rays to x265 for my media computers around the house to watch.

The only option I could vote for in the poll is I am happy with my current Intel Processor.
I will be buying a Ryzen Processor, but as funds are limited it wont be soon.

I will personally wait for Zen 2.0 as thats always the way to go with AMD (Phenom II/Piledriver) but I will jump on the new APU when they come out thats for sure.
