yeah but who wants to walk around holding a laptop when you coudl be holding that tiny thing... showing people around the house for real estate tours for an online video or something

trust me, it would have been cool to do laptop things on something like a piece of plexi glass.. but you can only do ipod things I suppose.

In that case the example you used was not the greatest, military types need big ol rugged things.

I also imagine they'd want to go have a sit rather then wander around a war-zone/ place their guarding with one of these sat infront of their face

Perhaps another example?

I did think it could be could for someone involved in the stock market, much easier to handle then a laptop on the stock floors.

So this new "innovative" device is...a big ipod touch. or for $130 extra (!!) a big iphone. No multi-tasking, no flash, no full blown OS. You can get a touch screen enabled netbook instead and have a far better device. Sure this is better than a netbook at being an e-reader, but the kindle wipes the floor with this for reading books (and apple in their comparison with the kindle says this has a "great" battery life of 10 hours...which they failed to compare with 1 week on the kindle battery).

Not even the apple processor is new...it's just a stock cortex core with a stock gpu component from ARM branded differently.

Make it faster, multi-task, have flash and running a proper OS which isn't locked down to installing only what apple will allow and it will be better, suprisingly that is a pretty apt description of the HP slate

I'd still prefer a laptop to be honest, just put it on a desk, this thing you'd have to hold unless it comes with a free stand?

No multitasking = FAIL. Plain and simple fail. This could be the tablet for everyone but no multitasking makes it a tablet for people who don't do their research and want to be frustrated with a substandard yet good looking product.

Apparently Apple isn't the only ones on the ARM train ;)

No multitasking = FAIL. Plain and simple fail. This could be the tablet for everyone but no multitasking makes it a tablet for people who don't do their research and want to be frustrated with a substandard yet good looking product.

Multitasking.. is the only real gripe people have... and it depends on how you use it. I don't have any problems maintaining a few "Tasks" on my iPhone... looking for a part price on newegg, SMS, instant messaging, listening to music.. It's just different. Yeah, safari opens each time, but it doesnt take long enough to warrant a "Wahh no multitasking" IMO.

I'm willing to bet multitasking will be in a future OS. It's how the iPhone has evolved. Start out basic, and let the features evolve with feedback from the actual population that uses the device, not a list of things to plaster a box with.

-or- until the jailbreakers get their hands on the device, and adapt "Backgrounder". It IS the iPhone OS basically, anyways. :rockout:

I know it will be successful with all those people who shit every Apple, but damn? Really? Just what is innovative and new about this?

Wheres dell version of the iPad? Oh wait, no other company has an ARM based touch based device that compares.

Back in my days we had books made out of PAPER

Welcome to 2010. :D

WOW OMG i cant wait to get one!!! as soon as I see a commercial were they are putting it in a manila envelope im sold.

j/k

seriously its a really big i touch and other than its size has nothing over it. I also think dippys example of multi tasking being the only gripe is BS your targeting one problem out of the many valid points others have had. Honestly this thing is the same thing as my iphone only huge and with less features. which is saying alot because even hacked my iphone is relatively useless. This is indeed another fan bait product ment to earn them $$ without actually changing technology or impressing the market. They are relying on the cult buyers to make this product a success which unfortunetely will work. The worst part? they arent even giving out month supplies of granny smith apples for the ludicrous price tag.

Meh, they'd probably sell more if they stopped marketing it as an eReader and added 'Personal Porn Device' to the list of features.

It's just a 3rd thing for spoiled kids to buy if you ask me. You aren't going to carry it around in your pocket to say listen to music like you would/could an I-Pod or I-Phone and you aren't going to use it for taking notes as there is no dedicated keyboard like a Macbook.

So if you already have a notebook and an I-Phone than here is another toy for you.

I can't stress this enough:

The iPad is not eligible for reading e-books.

The Kindle is expensive for some reason, and the reason is that it uses e-ink. It has a screen that won't damage your eyes, won't make you head hurt after looking at it for hours and you can see perfectly with natural light.

The iPad has just another glossy, LCD screen. No one, not even macfags, should use something like the iPad to spend 4 hours straight reading a book.

So as far as an e-book reader, the iPad is just another electronic device that opens text files, as we've had for over 20 years now.

some mac lovers are like those you will find in cults and apple is their God and if they have to ruin their eyesight to appease they're almighty God they will but that is a good catch I didn't even remember that but alot of mac fans wouldn't care.

I can sense people are dissing the ipad, almost every techy does.

I love iShuffles
ipods
itouch
iphone

And any model realease ontop of that.... And people flame at Apple on there update releases of this hardware, but When then itouch-iphone came out 3g wasnt even getting that popular if i remeber right and now its almost in many phones and not just leather glazed backberries back then

I think Ipods sound great, play great, never fail me, small, light, durable, ONLY COMPANY to have solid base around songs, apps, music, and I love the support and new products all the time....

But people are going to flame on my COMMENT, and flame on apple for the ipad... I just think its going to be a great device, and anustly there shouldnt be any problems and it should run smooth, bright, long, and light and reliable when its first released and then updated.

****EDIT****And also 1 more thing, you guys seem to be capping on the ib00k feature app for this ipad. Well anustly, theres going to be more apps for it and not just a ibook feature. And you know what, its going to play music, go online, and probably some accessorie to get a speaker for phone talk with the ability to take Sim cards from phones.
Not just a e-book. Also e-books arnt going to be playing some pretty high res movies, well i dont know exactly if its high res, but jesus it couldnt be pixelated if they ment it to be a foot infront of your face :D
