I got this motherboard back early Feb. It was working fine for months. The month before last I started having issues with the sound (onboard ) getting very distorted and I would have to restart comp to fix it. About 2 -3 weeks later I would get issues of it not booting, ( I had installed A M.2 SSD with Use of A PCIe adapter ). I assumed it was due to this and updated the bios, did not fix issue. Re installed A Sata 3 SSD. and still having issue.

They had me remove everything. A test everything one by one. As the Issue was random (did not happen all the time on start up). I Figured I would restart comp 10 times per part I added. Just installing 1 ram stick and CPU ( and running Video from the CPUs GPU) . It hung on 9th Restart. So I assumed that meant it was one of 3 things. That ram stick, that ram slot, or the motherboard. Moved that same ram to another slot and it also hung at some point. So now its This stick or the board. Removed this stick and put another in the first spot it also Hung at some point. At this point I was sure its the board. I took this stick out and took the last 2 and put them in ... they also hung at some point. The more sticks I installed the more common Hangs were.

Anyhow, This was not A issue for months and now it is . GIgabyte now wants me to remove it out of my case and do it all over again stating A grounding Issue ... ?

" Please attempt to remove the board and test outside the chassis as there may appear to be grounding issue. Test with the board outside the chassis with just the bare minimal hardware install.
- cpu along with heatsinkfan
- single stick of memory
- onboard video
- single OS hdd
Any issue with the above setup configuration? " ---- Gigabyte tech support

This is going too be A pain in the ass, First of my Case is F'n huge/heavy, 360 rad and I really just dont see this "grounding issue" as a plausible cause, nothing has changed in my system or its location. Maybe I am overreacting .. I am disabled and this is just going to be a pain in the ass to do for me. ( will have to call in help )

Anyhow , I am thinking of just telling them I did it and it did the same thing outside the case. Just to get this moving along.

What do yall think . Could this Grounding be A issue or A waste of time.

yes it could be a grounding issue. i've had all sorts of crashes and reboots due to small silly things, even had a fan controller once that made my 12V rail change as you adjusted it.

Main issues it the hangs on boot .. they are way way more common then the sound issue. Speakers are to big and hooked to my Obutto cockpit to really test else where (no other non laptop around) .. issue with sound is also rare and would be hard to test for. ( I dont work so, i am always home and on it ... i would say the sound has messed up .. maybe 7 times .. ... the boot hangs ... probly 4 times A week if not more )

Just check there is nothing behind the board that can be causing a short somewhere. Otherwise also make sure you have a good electrical connection between your power supply and the mobo screw holes.

If nothing is abnormal in that regard I guess you'll have to try default settings (1333MHz RAM) and then take it out.

I had a shorted USB port on a case make it look like the motherboard was dead, so yes, it's important to take the motherboard out.

Just throwing it out there as well, I have seen front I/O panels screw things up due to shorts internally in them. Hell I have even set a couple of cases on fire due to this.....lol

A PITA? Yes.

But for a RMA, you'd have to remove it from your case anyway. You may as well go through all the troubleshooting steps.
It will also save you time in case it's not a mobo issue and your RMA is returned then you have to troubleshoot all over again.

Removing the motherboard to eliminate any grounding is a very valid and common step to take that all motherboard manufacturers will ask you to do at some point. So no, Gigabyte is not being a PITA.
