people calling it out as fake news. I would find it hard for 3dfx to return since Nvidia own most of their assets. and 3dfx went bankrupt. No money, No assets means no R&D and products that can compete in the current market.

The only way it would work is if Nvidia is spinning off or rebooting the brand for its own purposes but then again that would be real strange how that would all work out.. Buying a 3dfx product that is actually a Nvidia product underneath. An empty shell of its former self dragged from its coffin and propped up on a stick to wave at nostalgia nerds.

Pretty much, and even if somehow they ended up being broke and spun off against all odds, lets just assume they /could/ start baking wafers. There is no silicon to be had.

Nvidia Bought 3DFX lock stock and barrel

it currently exists as a paper company ( TM & Brand owned by Nvidia ).

Any Product launched by 3DFX is going to be Nvidia Based and due to wafer restraints and availability is
either going to be "a Paper launch" or Nvidia is going to canablise their Current chip supply to feed this Sub Company.

Hey now, Apple made their own GPU from scratch with just some licenced IP. If the world's richest company can do it, what's to say a bankrupt company that hasn't existed in two decades couldn't do the same? /s

they would need to fight for a slot at fabs and they just dont have the money or the name to muscle out the other clients on that list. trying to obtain a license to use IP is another battle in itself.

It's not known if the 3DFX name was sold to NVidia along with some but not all of the IP. SLI, certainly, but how much of the rest of 3DFX holdings is not public knowledge. So this IS possible. But it could also be a prank..

Time will tell.

No it's not maybe google that yourself? Apple's GPU insights have never been revealed, to my knowledge, so any claim that they licensed just some GPU IP is spurious at best.

They had a real close relationship with Imagination (tech) so I'm guessing a lot of it is coming straight from there, how much ~ well anyone's guess, unless you have some source.
