You will see an improvement but its not worth the cost to get that slight increase in performance. Plenty of benchmarks out there that tell the story.

i upgraded my system from 3570k to 8700k 1 month ago. 3570k thats one gen older than yours. i thought have my cpu 7 years is long enough and mobo had a little defect already. with current ram prices upgrade your system when ram prices fall to normal. i think in 1 year or so they might cost less. ddr4 is like more than double price what it should have.

some people told me from my country that GTX 1180 is a long way off, so look at current cards...GTX 1080 is a fabulous GPU, it can play games on high/ultra at 1440p resolution with 90 120FPS easily...and your CPU will not hold it back...and i doubt it will hold back a GTX 1180 at 1440p...at 1080p it would,

but every CPU would, simply because a card of this caliber is simply way too powerful for a resolution that has gone mainstream 12 years ago.

they are saying that 1180 when it comes will hold back my 4770K
is it possible this>??

That is very laughable I'll just let you know right now that you're going to be waiting a while before the 1180 even comes out so hey 1070 to 1080 would work just fine with what you have before you really even see a major impact of performance from Intel for your processor it'll probably be about another 3 years before it's even considerably different as if they don't sandbag this time like they've been the last 10 years

I am also upgrading from an Ivy Bridge i5 3570k to a silicon lottery binned coffee lake. But to be honest, I don't expect huge improvements if we are talking about gaming.
Two points, out of the many CPUs I've owned my Ivy is the only golden silicon. I run it at 4.9GHz, and it can go over 5.1GHz. I don't blame you if you don't believe me but it's true.
The only thing here is that 4 threads, while fine now, soon will be a draw back?

Second point. I believe when the next gen of GPUs come out (I have 1080ti) bottle necks may start, certainly 2 gens later, like in 3 years time. Dam, reading back my own post
makes me realize I didn't need to upgrade after all. :banghead: Still, I enjoy making PCs and I hope it will be a beast. If it lasts 6 years like my Ivy, then all is good. Long wait to find that
out though.

If cores are important, get yourself a Xeon W-2155 for safe measures. And while you purchase that, give me your old intel CPU. Maybe even get a board to support two of them. No wait. 4 of them.

And then give me your old GPU.

Same upgrade path here for the CPU. I saw a HUGE improvement sometimes going from the occasional stutter and sub 60 fps to 100+ FPS with zero stutter unless there's a GPU limitation.

The jump I saw in Total War: Warhammer 2 was convincing: same GPU at same speeds, 1080p: (on a 1080 - people who say its overkill at that res need to get themselves examined ;))
4.4 Ghz 3570k versus 4.8 Ghz 8700k

let me emphasize. I am clearly not in the right frame of mind. I meant to say: Give me your old CPU. I should also mention, your motherboard and Ram too.

Thank you.

Laughs and Jokes aside, you will see very little difference. You may go from lets say 90fps to 100fps with the change, which would work well for you in lets say 5 - 6 years when your system overall may require a workover since your current system may only play future game at lets say 30fps vs what the new one will be able to play it at 40fps. But even then, it wont be worth it.

As others have said. GPU is what matters most.

Certain games do take advantage of the CPU like RTS games, 4x games, etc. But if you are a casual gamer, chances are, the change wont be enough to warrant the huge cost.
