Is my 3070ti running too hot?

I am trying to track down a waterblock for my new EVGA 3070 Ti XC3 Ultra but am not having any luck.

I am currently running it air cooled but it spends a lot of time at 92degC to deliver iRacing on 1440p triples. That concerns me.

I already have a water loop in the PC that was cooling the old gtx970 and the CPU. So I can plumb it in once I find a block.

Any help on finding a waterblock, or failing that tips on keeping it cooler would be gratefully appreciated.

can try to contact EKWB directly. From my reading I gathered one wasnt made for it, prolly not enough demand.

I've seen a few threads where people have tried to contact EKWB with no success. I guess I'll just keep searching.

While I can't speak for the 3070 Ti, I can speak for my EVGA FTW GTX 780, which has a similar TDP and cooler.

This card would go up into the 80s under load and stay there. That's perfectly normal. 90+ seems a bit high if you aren't overclocking.

All modern GPUs have safeguards in place to prevent damage. When they reach their highest temperature, the clock speeds will be throttled to prevent temps from going higher.

That being said, you can try replacing the thermal paste if you know how.

My 3080 Ti FE won't even reach that on a hotspot. Memory might peak at 96C but that's with 360W pulled from the card running Control with full RT on.
We need full system spec, cooling setup, what temps reach 92C and any details about GPU - is it new, used, warranty status.
Looking at non-Ti reviews that cooling should be able to keep good temps, around 70C with default fan curve.

iracing isn't graphically demanding
consider capping the frame rate to your monitors refresh rate

I can't see how iracing would be putting so much load on a 3070ti even running triples unless your frame rate is well past the triple digits

I have a 3070Ti and have never seen 80c, let alone 90.. hotspot hits 72c and this is with the fans on auto, not 0 rpm mode as well as stock paste and pads.

92°C Hotspot?

92degC is what MSI afterburner is reporting with no overclocking. Room temp would be 20-25C ambient.

Case airflow could be an issue, good tip.
The case is a roomy Corsair 750D ATX with the front hard panel removed (filter panel remains in place) with three fans blowing in. Up top is a three-fan radiator waterloop cooling the CPU (overkill, but was also for the old GPU) with fans blowing out. Also got a fan high on the back blowing out. Might take both side panels off for a while and see what impact that has.

My 3080 Ti FE won't even reach that on a hotspot. Memory might peak at 96C but that's with 360W pulled from the card running Control with full RT on.

Hey Chomiq, here's what you asked for. Hope it helps.

System Specs:
  • CASE: Corsair 750D ATX case
  • MOBO: Asus Z97-Pro wifi LGA1150
  • CPU: i7-4790K 4Ghz overclocked to 4.4Ghz
  • GPU: EVGA 3070 Ti XC3 Ultra 8GD with three fan cooler
  • RAM: 4 x 8GB Corsair DDR3-1600 PC3-12800
  • SSD: Samsung SSD 850Evo 500GB main drive
  • HDD: Seagate 4TB x 2 SATA drives plus Seagate 8TB backup drive
  • FANS: 7 x Corsair AF140 66.4cfm 140mm fans (3 blowing in at front, three exhausting across top-mounted 360mm rad (CPU cooler) and one exhausting top rear.
  • PSU: EVGA G2 850W 80+ Gold
  • DISPLAYS: 3 x Samsung G7 1440p 1000r 32" monitors (bought late last year)
All components bought new, no refurbs, no warranty issues.
  • Case, mobo CPU and drives bought in 2017.
  • Memory early 2021, GPU and monitors late 2021 (all three connected via displayport)
I have a waterloop currently cooling only the CPU. It was also cooling my old GTX970 GPU, but I haven't looped in the new GPU because I can't find a block.

I've tweaked the 3070 Ti's GPU fan profile to run at 100% from 50C, but no tweaks on GPU clock or memory clock yet. Not until I get the temp sorted.

The 92C temp is what MSI Afterburner consistently reports from the GPU during iRacing gameplay. I'm not sure how to get the breakdown you asked for (hot spot etc). Afterburner reports GPU Usage as 100% during races.

iRacing reports 80-90FPS during races without too many other cars on screen, dropping to 60-70FPS when I'm in traffic. I have crowds off, sky textures low, and a few other iRacing scenery graphics settings lowered to get the best frame rate.

well tripled 1440p at >80fps is probly close to 100% utilization
this is probly your block here

but you are likely going to need bigger rads going from a 970 to a 3070 lol
its nearly double the TDP

I think you might be right.
Based on this post on the EVGA forum the 3070 thermal pad layout is the same as the 3070 ti, so it should work.
I've got a second 360 rad ready to add to the loop as well.

I'm not an overclocking expert, so this might be a dumb question. Apologies in advance.
if I overclock the GPU and GPU memory and set an 80FPS frame limit in iRacing, could that lower temps?
According to MSI OC Scanner the GPU clock can do +40Mhz and the memory +200Mhz.

That is a bit toasty. What happens when you take the side of your case off? And have you used a utility to ramp up the fans on that card?

lower temps I doubt it
the oc scanner isn't very good its best to just do it manually with curve
you might be-able to get the same frequency with less voltage which would run cooler
you don't have the voltage and power sliders cranked all the way up do you ?
that would explain the temps

the configurator lists 3070ti's

visual = should fit but has not been tested by EK

Comparing the two using pictures from the EVGA forum and EKWB, it appears the 3070 Ti doesn't have that second row of silver cylinders that the 3070 does. (sorry I'm no techspert, so not sure what to call them). Everything else that needs contact with the waterblock seems the same.

Time to place an order.

Oh, and to answer your question, I have not messed with voltage.

Took the side off the case and temps dropped 5C at idle.
I have used MSI Afterburner to ramp the fans to 100% from 50C.

those are just capacitors they are irrelevant here
everything else looks like it should fit
just make sure the vrm's get good contact and it should be good to go
but try repasting yours before committing to a block
could be just a poor factory application

Just wanted to check if the EKWB Water Block worked on the 3070 Ti XC3? I just bought one and was going to water cool it eventually but if the non Ti water block doesn’t work I’m most likely going to return it. Thanks in advance!

Hey PPl i gots a Asus tuff 3070ti for 500 buks a decent price in aus, considering these where around 1500 buks a while back cause of BC, Ex minned on cards ive had a few various gpus, usally after some good close ups some provided on ebay , and had to vga bios reflash 1 to get stable!
any way HEAT on back of gpu ! ive got some ideas , cause what i did was put a fan on back of card and it lowers temps a few degrees!
any way been getn 40c ambient temp around 20c and 70-75c in a Match Halo Inf, and id say card mined on for a 1 yr or so! Stocked very fast and nice Eye candy! Previous 6700xt Pretty dam fast in its own right and can be hased for decent price to!

1 idea is put thermal pads and hsf on back of pcb on gpu and lower temps even more! in me diagram basic image paint exe!
The amount of heat on the back is amazeing on some cards !
