if you have a multimeter you can check your PSU output voltages. i think there is generally a 5% tolerance. i may be wrong though.

it may also be that your PCIe slot isnt working. or maybe the southbridge is borking.

Many thanks to all :), the problem hadn't replicated since, and I played games and ran Furmark, but I will keep an eye on this! if this should happen again I will try borrow a PSU hoping it's a PSU issue and not motherboard.
Maybe I can get an old card too, I will test it together the borrowed PSU...

I measured the PSU voltages in idle and full load and are OK, don't even move much, but could be ripple, but I don't have an oscilloscope to test :(

I will update when I test the PSU & video card or the display corruption appears again.

as long as they dont pump 15V instead of 12 its okay. :D
ripple's not much of a problem.

The computer locked with a black screen and monitor entered to power saving mode. It stopped sending any video output to the monitor so I am convinced the GT 520 is now dead. because the computer won't detect it anymore and now boots using the IGP.

I replaced the PSU with a generic one 500W (couldn't get a better one :( ) and returned the now broken 520 video card and got a 5450 (again). I preferred the GeForce 520 I had, it was more powerful or at least a 6450, but they were out of stock.

With this GPU, there are already 3 Video cards replaced so I am sure the problem is on my side and not the video cards themselves  and this will be the last one because I don't want to fill the local shop with broken video cards caused by "me"

Seems to work fine ATM, but I will keep and eye and if artifacts would happen again I will shut off the computer before causing damage and buy a new Motherboard.

Hoping too my monitor isn't the cause of the cards' dead :(

at least you know now, im really surprised a local shop let you change the card 3 times, most would have assumed user error/overclocking and said take a hike. never seen a motherboard break cards like that.

Yeah I was surprised too, I first thought they would reject the 3rd return but they accepted :)

Now lets see if the new PSU solved it, otherwise it will be the motherboard or even the monitor (the latter very unlikely)

I think the problem is solved right now, the HD5450 is going fine as for now. After inspecting the old PSU, I notice a very, very slight burn smell, it was a damaged 24 pin connector. I think it was connected loosely at some time and was partially melted, I think it was connected badly at some point and didn't notice it until today (the burn smell was very minimal). So the voltages would drop and then the video cards, who are generally more sensitive, were damaged but the rest of the system weren't. That's why the DMM readings were fine at the molex. Even the BIOS readings but I know sensors sometimes are inaccurate.
Luckily the motherboard main 24 pin connector suffered minimal damage.

Now I would have to search a trashed PSU and transplant the connector to repair it because I don't want to throw away a perfect unit but with a damaged connector :)

I would honestly buy a new powersupply. 500w are cheap these days, even for a reputable brand.

Yeah I will try to repair my good one, I am soldering its 24 pin connector, this 500W is a provisional one, but I don't rule out to get a better one anyways :)

BTW I get now strange stuff on De das dude sig, but I don't know if this is artifacts or other thing, but in my netbook I get squares instead (maybe I am getting a bit paranoid :) I don't know if it's the sig or the GFX it's artifacting but the allegedly artifacts dissapears or change when I select or scroll )

The "stuff" you see is characters from a different language & region. It's nothing to worry about.

Many thanks, I am curious to know what language is but causes some strange issues here, in my other computer only appear some squares lol.

EDIT: Lol pasted the squares from the netbook in the post and looks terrible strange in my desktop PC :)

It's not a strange issue. You just don't have that character set installed.

No I am referring part of the text in that writing system is outside the "message area" (like this post shows) and scrolling makes it flicker/disappear/change the shape, is my netbook which doesn't seem have the character set installed (only shows a bunch of squares in any browser) :)

That's why at first I though they were artifacts lol.

I don't have the character set he uses installed either. It's not an issue (with hardware at least) at all.

Change the psu if you can, better power supply is always recommended for the long run. :)

The first screenshot looks like when my Radeon 9000 Pro GPU was unstable when running 3D Mark 2001 SE.
It means I needed to lower the GPU clock by at least a few mhz.

Yeah reducing clocks way low solved it, I think the faulty 24 pin connector caused some voltage issues and degraded the card making it unstable even an stock clocks, forcing me to reduce it more and more while it's degrading more and more :(
