85c is pretty warm and outside of my preferable comfort zone, but it shouldn't harm anything. I'm curious as to why it's only at 40% fan, though. Did you set that speed yourself or is that with the default fan profile? If you set it yourself I'd undo that and let the default fan profile decide how to run the fan. It'll make sure the card stays cool enough under load. Though, again, 85c is pretty warm but not meltdown warm.

Thats a fairly safe temperature for that card. It can get even higher when playing something a lot more demanding.

I set spped. btw i hit 90C at %40 fan after 6 mins of Furmark. But i know that furmark is a very hard tortue test. so in normal case that temp is lower.
What speed should i set?

The OP has to bare in mind what the ambient Air temp is ( you noticed Temp during the Day or night )
Turkey can be Very hot

also

I take it this is previously owned by someone else and so you have no idea how the card and cooler have been handled
It Just might be a SAFE INVESTMENT to remove cooler clean the cooler and GPU then repaste Carefully

bad or improper handling or the card may have reduced the previous thermal's paste efficiency

Well Turkey can be hot but Karadeniz (Blacksea) Region is usually cold and rainy. My ambient temps are around 23-26. Did this test at night ( now :) )

Don't set anything, let the default fan profile handle it.

see edit above

and seeing its Christmas some crimbo facts

The true story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas, who was born during the third century in the village of Patara. At the time the area was Greek and is now on the southern coast of Turkey

But it gets too hot on idle when i set Auto Fan.

With a speed of %50, I get 81C on 6min Furmark. I think I will stick with %50 fan.

It Just might be a SAFE INVESTMENT to remove cooler clean the cooler and GPU then repaste Carefully

bad or improper handling or the card may have reduced the previous thermal's paste efficiency
Well i own a thermal paste (Zalman ZM-STG2) but i dont have compatible screwdriver. Mine just cant unscrew the card :(

How hot is too hot? Idle temps aren't nearly important as load temps. Manufacturers are aware of this and spin the fan as slowly as possible while idle to save noise. Some newer energy efficient cards even turn the fans completely off at idle.

Just set a custom curve in MSI afterburner, should be able to set a nice idle fan speed while spooling up as you want :)

Auto Fan speed:
75C at idle %5 fan
85C at load %44 fan
Just set a custom curve in MSI afterburner, should be able to set a nice idle fan speed while spooling up as you want :)
Thanks for tip. I'll try when i get my hands on my Core 2 Duo build. :)

75c @ 5% speed? That seems crazy, if that truly is the default fan profile then I would be looking to reprimand the person responsible for specifying those settings if I were in charge.

That's something different. He was talking about Furmark there, what I mentioned was about idle temps. Furmark is hardly idle...

I used to run a couple of 4870's back in their hay day and temps in the 70's-80's were normal for me. Never had an issue. I too ran my fans at 40-50% because those cards were damn loud when the fan was at 60% or higher.
