Ive had my hdd for about a year now and never had these kinds of problems until now. Twice my computer has undergone a serious crash while installing two different games. Each time my computer locked up when I restarted, Win7 runs very slow Windows explorer isnt responding for 10 minutes or not at all. The first time I used system restore which didnt help this made me think my hdd was corrupt I reformated, all is well until I installed another game which ive had for years this time system restore seems to work but couldnt this mean there is something wrong with my hdd?

The only thing I know for sure is I have never had Hdd problems until recently. If the system restore couldn't repair it I knew it had to be corrupt. The exact same symptoms happened again form the exact same cause so I was afraid that I would have to chuck this Hdd. The system restore took hold this time and its running fine now but only time will tell. Thanks for all the feedback.

Almost sounds like slightly unstable ram to me. Eventually if it isn't set correctly, it will corrupt a OS into dysfunction.

ever run a couple hours worth of Memtest86+ in DOS?
