1) I am not sure how windows 10 sees things, my desktop phenom has 1600mhz rams running at 1333mhz according to uefi setup but on windows "mem view task manager" says it is runing at only 667mhz.
my icore7 laptop from the same age or so says it runs the ram at 1333mhz.
How do i check which speed my phenom desktop with 64GB ram is running at for real? check photos from my desktop screen.

2) another question... is it ok if I disable compressed data on my ram? since it never seems to get beyond 16GBs? will it speed access?

3) another question, is my GPU running at 1.0 when my mobo manual says pci-e is 2.0 16x 5GT/s (check photo)
I just installed the march 2023 studio driver clean install and it still says the bus runs at 1.0
I ran gpu-z too and tried the mini stress test but it didn't go up to 16x and it stayed at 1.1

so mem and gpu at stake.

Well you click one tab over and read what cpu-z says. Just remember it reads the effective clock frequency, which you double (ddr). In which case 667mhz = 1333mt/s.

the screenshot here is from my phenom the pc I'm worrying right now, the shot is from memory tab on cpu-z. Uncore frecuency 2800MHz now?

i checked the second pc "the laptop" where windows says is running at 1333mhz and on the memory tab it reads 666mhz too so? they're both at 1333mhz?

anyway so I'm now mostly worry about the GPU on my desktop which on the laptop says is running at 1.0 pci-e also but I'm just worry about the desktop (check 2nd and 3rd pic on post #1)
So is that option broken on gpu-z and cpu-z? I just wanna know it's really running at 1.0 so I can find a way to increase it to 2.0 which is the max supported by the mobo the gtx 1080 supports 3.0 I read so plenty of room.

It will read the Bus State 2.0 or 1.0{idle}
16 is the "Total" amount of "PCIe Lanes" available for the card to use, by what your screen shows it's only got "4" Lanes available
Your 1TB GIGABYTE SSD NVME PCIE is ALSO using part of those " 16 Lanes".

It should say 16 2.0 1:1 using the GPUz Test, If there is enough "PCIe Lanes" left unused.
Right now the "Slot" it is in only has 4 "Lanes" thus why it says on bottom, Link State 4X 1.1 so it should read 4X 2.0 when you run the test

You will need to see if it is in the Correct Slot, usually the TOP slot is the fastest {Full Link}

As @ShrimpBrime said, your running 1333, just some Tabs show 1/2 because of Double Data Rate {DDR}

And DangSkippy, 64 Gb DDR3 Very Nice. I'm trying to get up to 32Gb myself {Max for my board}

then why is my laptop k53sd on windows 10 task manager "performance tab - memory" saying is running at 1333mhz? is my laptop then 2666mhz when the asus is from 2011? I don't think so. check photo that's from the asus laptop that is a year older than my phenomii i believe.

Never trust Task Manager, it's inconsistent. My DDR4 system shows 3733MHz and my DDR3 system shows 933MHz (1866MHz effective), both running Windows 10 latest build.

1. CPU-Z is correct, DDR stands for double data rate, 667 MHz = DDR3-1333, do not trust Task Manager reported frequencies, it's unreliable
2. Your system is too obsolete to support PCI Express 3.0, you cannot use it - but 3.0 GPUs will work in 2.0 mode
3. With that in mind, the Phenom II is not powerful enough to run the GTX 1080 to its fullest performance and will bottleneck, it is also not capable of booting many newer games due to obsolete instruction set, there is nothing you can do about this and there are no possible workarounds

CPU-Z will report the bus frequency your RAM is running at. In this instance 667MHz. To find the actual transfer speed of your RAM you need to double this number. Hence your RAM is running at 1333MT/s.

Windows Task Manager is unreliable when it comes to reporting memory speeds.

Is your GPU even installed in the correct PCIe slot? It is only running x4 lanes in addition to PCIe 1.1 speeds. You should expect a x16 PCIe 2.0 connection. In the specifications for your motherboard it says: "2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (PCIE2: x16 mode; PCIE3: x4 mode)". So at first glance it seems you have installed your GPU in PCIE3 instead of PCIE2

yes the 1080 is on the top most that isn't pcie2.0-1x watch these photos, I couldn't send better cause I didn't wanna remove the cards out.
pcie1 is 1x that's why is not on 1. pcie2 is 16x cause is top most.

As @Calenhad said you have 2 {GPU} slots to choose from PCIE2: x16 mode; PCIE3: x4 mode is electrical x4, wired to the southbridge , PCIe 2.0 x1 {Topslot with NVME}

So, again the 1 Tb NVMe PCIe drive is using some lanes up. {Top most card}

Actually, is that 1 Card with the Power plug in it , is it IN the lower X16 Slot {PCIe3} ? It sure looks like it is.
Also not sure, but maybe the Other 2 PCI cards { 1 has a power plugged into it, and 1 in very bottom slot} They may be using some lane's as well ? AMD user's will need to verify that

I ran across a similar issue with your motherboard and they removed the GPU and put it back in and it worked at correct speed, but they did Not have any other other PCIe in use as you do

the topmost card is wifi6 pcie1x | then gpu pcie 4x or 16x | then audigy2 pci | pcie4x i think and with nvme pcie adapter | then a svideo pci capture card.

Ok so then as I thought, with ALL the PCIe slots used they dont have enough "Lanes" to link over x4
It's the best you can do But maybe if you remove that other card in the x16 slot, it may improve your GPU link

The 970 chipset provides 22 lanes of PCI-E 2.0; x16+x4+x1+x1. Having cards installed in all slots should not detract from the x16 to the GPU as no slot on the board is sharing lane allocation (i.E. x16 split to x8+x8 if populating both).

no slot on the board is sharing lane allocation
So is there a "jumper/ BIOS feature" for the top x16 to select something ?
Still confused about why it only links at x4

On the 970 Pro3 that the OP owns, there is no jumper and resources cannot be reallocated, it's hardwired that way, the slot is full size but electrically only the pins for a x4 connection are installed:

But his GPU is in the Correct x16 Slot PCIe2
Perhaps it needs re-Seated then ?

I checked again and tried the old gpuz and new gpuz, both report 16x now however still at 1.1 which was my original concern, and if u look at my #1 post on cpu-z shot the mainboard tab and then down to graphic interface it read 1.0 not 2.0. My asus2 laptop reads 1.0 too but my concern is the phenom. Is this normal? it's at 2.5GT/s not 5.
here's a screenshot of gpuz running with wow running on the phenom desktop.

don't think so, else I would had done it. I'll look tomorrow at everything again but tho the closest thing would be the IMOUU option in the northbridge tab.
It was enabled then I set it to disable then enabled again it didn't make a difference in performance for games like counter strike go, it seems all games use CPU most strongly than the GPU since my 1080 didn't make any improvement than the HD7770 or HD5770 I had until 2021. it could be cause is at 1.1PCIE? I could flash a 3rd party UEFI firmware for my mobo if that could improve my performance specially for my GPU.

other than that I max out

Heyy that's good @Miguel2013 it's back to x16 :toast:

Check again also with GPUz Render tab and see that if x16 2.0 bumps up.
At least you are close to full x16 now (94%)

Of course it didn't, you're running a Phenom II. I don't think you realize how obsolete that CPU is. That motherboard, CPU and RAM need to be retired and upgraded if you want more performance.

And this would be on a somewhat relevant platform, Phenom IIs can't run the 1080 to half of its potential even if he was getting PCIe 2.0 x16 link going on. And it's not like the 1080 is anything special either, it's a 7 year old graphics card that wasn't even the fastest when it came out. These CPUs are relics.

It's not about the "IF it was another system, it's what he has to work with.
Not all of us can afford/need/want to buy all new crap just because it's not the "norm"
He had specific issues that needed addressed Not advice about "It's outdated"

Now if the reason for not getting full 2.0 could be fixed :confused:

It ultimately does not matter. That system cannot comport a graphics card such as the GTX 1080, PCIe 2.0 or not. Running it at 2.0 will yield no performance improvement, making it a fool's errand.

If it's only running at Gen 1 under load, the usual checklist will apply:

1. Check if chipset driver is installed correctly
2. Check for debris in the slot
3. Test GPU in another system
4. Test another GPU on this motherboard
5. Replace faulty component

gpuz march29 version still says 1.1 for bus interface speed, it even says my 1080 supports 1.1 as is the max of the card?
oh and I'll check those chipset drivers

UPDATE:
installed 2018 chipset drivers I think i either had none/ or 2015 chipset drivers.
performance improved in csgo and i see even some shaders or effects not seeing before. Didn't touch gpu drivers. Although I'm starting to think AMD cpus run better with AMD gpus.
I'll try other games tomorrow when I'm not tired.

Not a matter of AMD+AMD, but rather that the Radeon driver is less threaded than the NVIDIA driver, which in turn makes your already slow CPU suffer even further. That's why AMD GPUs are considered to be "friendlier" to low end PCs. Your CPU is by no means representative of an AMD processor's performance today, even the slowest and crappiest Ryzen like the 3 1200 is practically twice as fast as your Phenom II.

Sorry mate, your computer needs to be upgraded ASAP, there is nothing else you can do. Really.

Since you have a nice and unusual 64 GB DDR3 kit, try to purchase a X79 motherboard and a Xeon from aliexpress. It'll run circles on that Phenom, I am not being hyperbolic or trying to put you down when I say your CPU is just too old to be of any use anymore. It simply cannot do the things you want it to.
