Only reference design is external exhaust aka blower design....
Personally, i would NEVER buy a card that is not reference, because if its modified, its gonna be impossible to find a fitting aftermarket cooler if needed.

You're wrong. Some of the graphics cards are unchanged (pcb is like reference) and having only non-reference cooling. So that coolers, about which you write, exactly fits them.

im pretty sure gigabyte almost never use reference pcb unless they use the reference cooler

Non-reference PCB from Gigabyte generates less heat and needs less power than the reference PCB. One example is the GTX470 SuperOverclock.

I got the Gigabyte HD6850 (GV-R685D5-1GD) and it Overclock,s good on the GPU 970MHz with out Voltage tweaking, but the Ram goes only to 1075Mhz above teed i got Blackscreen,s.

The Cooling is OK 40°C on Idle 70°C on Lode with about 26°C Roomtemperature.

I skimmed through the responses but have to wonder why the OP never set fan speed to manual and set it to a speed of his choice?

At 775/1000 it was 74*C and the speed was set to 67% (automatically) - I set it down to 55% (manual) - the temperature went up by more than 10*C.

the stock temps is normal, the overclocked temps is a bit high... but its very known that AMD cards gets VERY hot when overclocked, overclocking is not a guarantee and you cant compare your overclocking results and heat output with others.

The heat/clock ratio on the AMD cards is very bad compared to nvidia cards.

what??? how is that i changed from overclocked 8800gt 700/1800/2100 to 5850 765/4500
and the power load is the same!!!>>?? and when i push it to 950/5000 barely get hot

Reason for this is: The AMD cards comes so highly clocked out of factory already{what about the gts250 was it low stock clock??}

Do some research before you comment again plz..... you cant compare a high-end card and a low-end card....... otherwise i could say lets compare the gts450 and then gtx470, gts450 with 950mhz core clock and the gtx470 with 607mhz.... christ......
You clearly failed to understand what i said. There are graphs that shows the heat/clock ratio on each card. Take a look at those.

im doing my research man i have muti meter and furmark!! what about 470 in furmark its surely too cool to overclock it more right?? since 470 takes 210 watt if u oc it from lets say 600-900 on the same voltage which is impossible u get 50% more power
since power scales linearly with clock speeds and ^2 percentage from voltage increase so u do ur research first and find best perf/watt first

overclock will increase the power no matter what it is for intel amd or nvidia since both nvidia and ati now at 40nm u cant just say overclocking amd make it take more power worse than nvidia its all about cooling and the type of overclock (voltage increase or not)[=more heat = more temp] ,i agree that the 6870 and the 5870 is almost at it's peak mhz but u can get lower card and overclock it to the top one speed

i was talking to u is it just hard to learn something???;) , ,the guy with 6850 got a bad card just like my brother's 8800gt wont go even to 650 when i could do 725 maybe the non reference design fault

Yeah of course the guy got a bad card. I think its a combination of a bad clocking card and wrong placed fans in the case,
Overclocking is as i said before, never a guarantee and the guy expect too much.
It well known that the new 6 series of AMD cards are louder and hotter then the 5 series. Especially with overclocking. Thats most likely why they overclock so bad since they come already with so high clocks out of factory which is near the limits of what hardware/components they are using in their cards, which leaves little room for overclocking...
AMD has been patching their cards over and over again...

I had a gts250 once, it clocked like SHIT, i was lucky if i could get 100mhz more out of the core on that thing.... compared to this gtx470 where i can easily bring it up 200mhz more on the core and a few houndred mhz more on the memory without even voltage increase....
And the gts250 was not as hot as the 470, and still the 470 overclocks better... why? because the internal components are not near their limits.

The cooler on my MSI HD6850 OC card was, in my opinion, broken (failed) so I turned it into a shop and got my money back.
I had Inno3D 8800GT Wind and the card was cooler and quieter than the Radeon which I turned into the store. So I think that this Radeon or had weak / bad cooling or they lied in this review that I gave you at the beginning.

But it had the factory overclock. On this factory overclocked I had a high temperature and it was very loud.

I have got very good case with excellent combination of good placed fans so you are wrong on this.

Here are some pictures (with HD4850 but I changed only card) of my PC

What do you think about what is better to buy: HD5850 or HD6850?

With the price difference between HD6850 and HD6870 being minimal in many instances, I'd shop around for a good price and get the HD6870 (and I did, too). HD6850's do overclock pretty well, but why bother when you can just spend a few dollars more and get a card that already outperforms an overclocked HD6850 right out of the box?

hmmm the 6870have 900mhz stock clock and the 5850 have 725 stock i got my 5850 to 1000 core/1300 memory
surely faster than the 6870 and 5870

Your CPU s much more better than my. I've got Phenom II x3 720BE only.

Don't rely so much on benchmark scores to tell you how fast your card is. You can sit around running fast benchmarks all day long but it doesn't mean your card is better in games. Case in point: An HD3870X2 benchmarks higher in 3dMark 06 and Vantage than a single HD4870 but in games the single HD4870 destroys it. How well a card performs in games is more important than how high it benches. AMD optimized the HD6000 series differently than the HD5000 cards so that they perform better in actual games and not quite so much in benchmarks because they took into account how game designers actually utilize the video resources available to them and maximized performance around the most commonly used features and less around those not as often used.
