Is my router broken?

I have Asus AC1900P for 2 years. It has only a few days recently the upload speed is dam slow : 0.3 mbps ( above 10 mbps before) and download speed is fine. I called Spectrum and they asked my to plug the modem direct to a desktop to test again. I did and the upload back to normal, so is the router broken? I used Merlin latest firmware, then flash back to Asus firmware but nothing has changed.

I'm not familiar with merlin. I am only kinda familiar with asus stock FW. With either FW is there anyway you can check link speed and dropped packets or collisions? Is this modem DSL? (COAX) do you need it plugged in to get internet? or can you plug your router in and disconnect the modem entirely?

Merlin re-uses AsusWRT's UI and most of it's setup, adding features and backend changes, so you'd be familiar with it Sol.

Have you reset the router and reconfigured?

Do you have any additional features like QoS enabled?

Are you connecting to the router via WiFi or Ethernet cable?

If one, have you tried the other?

What are you speed testing with?

I prefer Speedof.me to Speedtest.net.

Did you upgrade firmware just prior to the slowdown?

I have not reset the router yet. I don't have QOS. I wire from the router to a desktop and test on speedtest.net, spectrum speedtest. Yes, I upgraded to latest Merlin firmware after the slowdown, the upload ASUS firmware after same slowdown with latest Merlin. The tech support told me to plug direct from a modem to a desktop and the upload is normal.

Yeah, the first thing you'll want to do is do a factory reset on the router. See if that changes anything.

Asus is good at making motherboards, this however forget it, get a TP-Link or Netgear

Note that Ethernet cables are cheap and easily damaged, but critical network devices. Replace the cables and see what happens. Ethernet switch ports can go bad too. So try a different Ethernet port on your switch/router.

I would also do a total "cold" reset of your network. By "cold" I mean totally remove power to all devices, including your computer, by unplugging from the wall. Then plug in and power up the modem and wait for lights to settle down. Then plug in and power up the router and wait for lights to settle down. Then plug in and power up the PC and see what happens.

ASUS may be not be known for building quality network devices, but there is nothing to suggest they build bad ones either. I know several users of ASUS network gear who are very happy with them. That said, until Man can create perfection 100% of the time, there will always be units that fail prematurely - even from the best makers out there. I like Linksys and Netgear.

Last, bad grid or facility power can take out network gear too. So I always recommend running every computer and all your network gear off a "good" UPS with AVR too. And every home and every computer user should have access to a AC Outlet Tester to ensure your outlet is properly wired and grounded. I recommend one with a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupt) indicator as it can be used to test bathroom and kitchen outlets (outlets near water) too. These testers can be found for your type and voltage outlet, foreign or domestic, (like this one for the UK) at most home improvement stores, or even the electrical department at Wal-Mart. Use it to test all the outlets in the home and if a fault is shown, have it fixed by a qualified electrician.

This is the correct one for AC1900P.

After flashing reprogram settings from scratch, do not try and load old settings.
