Is there a way to block steam from home network ??

I have a limited bandwidth account from my isp, and steam seems to be chewing thru my bandwidth.

It's cuz my kid plays it in his room. I think that have found a way to block it thru my router.

If they are playing online games then that is what is sucking up the bandwidth, steam itself uses next to no bandwidth. You will have to block the individual games, not steam. Though blocking steam might make most of the online games they are playing unplayable. Which I'm sure will lead to them complaining. You might as well just tell them to stop playing games online.

Simply limit the amount of time that they are allowed to play online, then put steam in offline mode.

Also, don't forget that the Steam client will also automatically download patches for all your games, which in some instances can be a gigabyte or so. You can turn off this feature if you want, or just hit pause on the download.

There are programs like Cisco Network Magic which allow you to limit online time for a particular pc on your network. I don't know if an equivalent freeware program exists though.

Hehe.... as it turns out, my isp, as of Feb 2, has just started offering an unlimited option at the same speed, for and additional $25./mo.

Guess that'll solve me issues just fine.
