Hey guys,

I just bought my second Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 4Gb card to run in SLI and I'm wondering if my PSU will be enough to run both cards seamlessly...

My PSU is: - Coolermaster SilentPro 1000W

It ran my two GTX 760's without a hitch.... I hope it's enough lol.

Yes it will be fine. Quick google review shows it to be a decent PSU, and 1000W is plenty for 2 gpus. Enjoy :)

Agreed,

I really don't know why anyone would need 1500 watts for their gaming rig unless all you're going for is bragging rights.

PSU efficency now days is pretty hihg, also hardware is less power hungry compared to older times, now you can do a sli with a decent 650W PSU without problems,

4 GTX 980 ti's, Titan X's, R9 290X's, R9 290's and also 2 R9 295X2 cards would need 1500Watts with how much power they can pull especially if you factor in an overclocked CPU and the rest of the system.

With 1K, you can pick up 3 GTX 980's if you wanted and still have some room for overclocking!

Lol bragging rights my friend... Maybe some people feel they need that kind of Graphics processing power (Graphic Devs come to mind), but I never will ;)

A standard 980 requires 500w and 30 amps total system power. The rule of thumb for dual SLI is 1.5 times the power for two cards. That would be roughly 750w and 45 amps minimum total sys power.

Your PSU is well beyond that at 1000w and a whopping 80 amps. Almost twice the raw current needed.

well maybe because I hate SLi, I do really have in mind that more than 750W 80+ bronze PSU its completely innecesary, but that’s its my personal opinion,
